Bonnet Pattern #5160

MATERIALS:
CHADWICK'S RED HEART BABY POMPADOUR, 1 ball (¾ oz. ball).
Clark's O.N.T. Rug and Afghan Hook size G.
1½ yds. ¾-inch ribbon.
¼ yd. matching China silk.

Starting at the front edge, make a chain to measure 15½ inches. 1st row: * Draw loop on hook out ½ inch, yarn over and draw yarn through, making a ch st of it. Insert hook between loop and single thread of this ch and make an sc (a knot st made). Work another knot st, skip 3 ch, sc in next ch. Repeat from * across (17 double knot sts made). Make two ¾-inch knot sts to turn. 2nd row: * Sc in double loop at right of next knot, sc in double loop at left of same knot, 2 knot sts. Repeat from * across, ending with sc at left of last knot. Make two ¾-inch knot sts to turn. Repeat 2nd row until piece measures 6 inches. Fasten off.

EDGING … Fasten yarn at end of foundation ch and work 1st row of knot stitch across. Ch 2, turn. Sc in double loop at right of next knot, * 2 knot sts, skip free knot, sc in double loop at right of next knot, sc in double loop at left of same knot. Repeat from * across. Fasten off.

FINISHING … Cut China silk to measure 7 x 14½ inches. Block Bonnet to measure (from foundation ch) 6 x 13½ inches. Sew pieces together, having ½-inch seam on lining. Sew center back seam, starting at the bottom, for 2 inches. Gather remainder of seam into 2 inches. Thread 12 inches of ribbon into loops at bottom of bonnet, gathering it in to fit. Fold edging back at front of bonnet and thread remainder of ribbon through loops under edging leaving ends for ties.
