Skirt

Work begins at waist.

First Ruffle. With Yellow, ch 240 (make foundation chains loosely to prevent pulling), join with sl st to form ring. Do not turn, but continue in a spiral. 1st rnd: Ch 3, 1 d c in each st of ch (240 d c). Join with sl st to first ch-3. 2nd rnd: * Ch 5, skip 2 d c, 1 s c in next, repeat from * around (80 loops). 3rd rnd: Sl st to center of 1st loop of previous rnd, * ch 5, s c in next loop, repeat from * around. Repeat 3rd rnd until there are 7 rnds of loops. Break off Yellow. Join White and finish with 1 rnd of picots by working as follows: * Ch 5, 1 s c in 4th ch from hook, ch 1, 1 s c in next loop, repeat from * around. Break and fasten thread.

Second Ruffle. With Yellow, ch 250, join with sl st to form ring. Do not turn. 1st rnd: Ch 3, 1 d c in each st of ch (250 d c). Join with sl st. 2nd rnd: Ch 3, 1 d c in each d c, join with sl st. Work 2 more rnds of d c. 5th rnd: Work d c's making 8 increases at equal intervals (to increase, work 2 d c in 1 st). Join with sl st. 6th rnd: Same as 2nd rnd. Then work 7 rnds of ch-loops, same as for first ruffle, and finish with a rnd of picots in White. Break and fasten thread.

Make 5 more ruffles the same as second ruffle, but with 9 more stitches in the starting chain of each new ruffle, so that each lower ruffle is 9 stitches larger than the one above. Join ruffles in correct position, having the smallest one (first) at top and largest at bottom. To join, starting with bottom ruffle, sew the chain edge to the last d c row of previous ruffle. The chain edge of the first ruffle will remain free.

Yoke

Back. Attach Yellow to joining of foundation ch of first ruffle, and with right side of work towards you, work along other side of ch as follows: 1st row: * Ch 5, skip 2 sts, s c in next, repeat from * until 40 loops have been made (half of skirt top), turn. 2nd row: Sl st to center of 1st loop, * ch 2, s c in next loop, repeat from * to end, ch 3, turn. 3rd row: 1 d c in each ch st and in each s c, ch 1, turn. 4th row: 1 s c in each d c, ch 3, turn. Work a row of d c, 1 row of s c, 1 row of d c, 1 row of s c, 1 row of ch-5 loops, and 1 row same as 2nd row. There will be 38 ch-2 sps on last row. Armhole shaping and Back Opening. 1st row: Sl st over first 2 sps, ch 3 (to count as 1 d c), 1 d c in each s c and in each ch st, to middle of row (52 d c), ch 1, turn. 2nd row: 1 s c in each d c, ch 3, turn. 3rd row: 1 d c in each s c, ch 1, turn. Repeat 2nd and 3rd rows alternately until work measures 3¾ inches from underarm, ending with a row of d c at center back edge. Then shape shoulder as follows: 1st row: Work s c to within 6 sts from end, turn. Sl st over 6 sts, continue with d c to end, turn. 3rd row: Sl st over 18 sts and s c within 6 sts from shoulder edge, turn. 4th row: Sl st over first 6 sts, and work remaining sts in d c. Break and fasten thread. Make other side to correspond.

Front. Same as back, omitting the center opening. When work measures 3 inches from armhole, last row being a s c row and ending at armhole edge, start neck shaping (104 sts in row). 1st row: 44 d c, ch 1, turn. 2nd row: Skip 2 sts, 1 s c in each d c across, ch 3, turn. 3rd row: D c across to within last d c from neck, ch 1, turn. Repeat last 2 rows once. Then shape shoulder same as for back, continuing to shape neck as for the last 2 rows. Skip 16 s c, attach thread to next s c and work the other shoulder to correspond. Sew up side and shoulder seams.

Sleeves

With Yellow, work about 34 ch-5 loops around armhole (1 loop to each d c row and enough to keep work from pulling along underarm shaping). Work 18 more rnds of loops. Cuff. * Ch 1, 1 s c in next loop, 1 s c in next loop, 1 s c in next loop, repeat from * around. Then work 1 rnd of d c, 1 rnd of s c, 1 rnd of d c, and 1 rnd of s c. Break and fasten thread. Make another sleeve in other armhole.

Collar

Attach Yellow at one corner of back opening, and work 44 loops around neck. Work 8 more rows of loops, and finish with picot edge in White. With Yellow crochet two buttonhole loops on right back yoke, 1 at top of opening and another at the middle. Sew buttons to correspond on other side.
