MATERIALS:
CLARK'S O.N.T. or J. & P. COATS BEST SIX CORD MERCERIZED CROCHET, size 30:
Small Ball:
Clark's O.N.T.For Size 1—9 balls of White or Ecru, or 14 balls of any color.
For Size 2—10 balls of White or Ecru, or 15 balls of any color; or
J. & P. CoatsFor Size 1—7 balls of White or Ecru, or 9 balls of any color.
For Size 2—8 balls of White or Ecru, or 10 balls of any color.
Big Ball:
Clark's O.N.T.For Size 1 or 2—4 balls of White or Ecru; or
J. & P. CoatsFor Size 1 or 2—4 balls of White or Ecru, or 5 balls of any color.
Milward's Steel Crochet Hook No. 11.
2½ yds. velvet ribbon, ¼" wide.

GAUGE: 12 double knot sts (6 sps) make 2".

BACK … Starting at neck edge, ch 144 (to measure about 12"). 1st row: * Draw loop on hook out ¼", thread over and draw thread through, making a ch st of it; insert hook between loop and single thread of this ch and make an sc (a knot st made), make another knot st, skip 3 ch, sc in next ch. Repeat from * across (36 double knot sts). Make two ⅜" knot sts to turn. 2nd row: * Sc in double loop at right of next knot, sc in double loop at left of same knot, 2 knot sts. Repeat from * across, ending with sc at left of last knot. Make two ⅜" knot sts to turn. Repeat 2nd row, increas­ing 2 knot sts at both ends of 1 row every ¾" until there are 50 double knot sts in the row and piece measures 5¼" in all. To inc, make sc in double loop of one side of center knot, 2 knot sts, sc on other side of same center knot.

To Shape Armholes: At end of next 2 rows, ch 32 and work back over this ch, making 8 double knot sts (66 double knot sts in row). Work straight until piece measures, in all, 15½" size 1 or 17" for size 2. Fasten off.

FRONT … Work as for Back.

SLEEVES … Starting at neck edge, ch 64 (to measure about 5¼"). Work back in knot st pattern, making 16 double knots. Work in knot st pattern, increasing 2 knot sts at both ends of 1 row every ½" until there are 32 double knot sts in the row and piece measures 4" in all. At end of next 2 rows, ch 16 and work back over this ch, making 4 double knot sts (40 double knot sts in row). Work straight until piece meas­ures 5¼" in all. Now dec 1 double knot st at both ends of every row 13 times (14 double knot sts remain). To dec, omit turning knot st, sl st to center of 1st half of knot st, sc in next half of knot st and continue in pattern across row to within last knot st. Fasten off.

FINISHING … With hot iron, press through damp cloth to measurements given. Sew underarm seams. Sew sleeves in place. Work 1 row of sc around neck and bottom of sleeves. Ch 5, turn. * Skip 1 sc, tr in next sc, ch 1. Repeat from * around. Fasten off. Run narrow velvet ribbon through beading, drawing it in to fit, and tie ends in bows.
