Tailored Softness Collar Pattern #2217

Materials: Clark's O.N.T. Mercerized Crochet, 3 balls of White, size 50. Milward's steel crochet hook No. 11 or 12.

Collar. Starting at neck edge, ch 182 (to measure about 15 inches), turn. 1st row: D c in 5th ch from hook, * ch 2, skip 2 ch, d c in next ch, repeat from * to end of ch (60 sps). Ch 5, turn. 2nd row: S c in 1st sp, * ch 5, s c in next sp, repeat from * across. Ch 5, turn. 3rd and 4th rows: S c in 1st loop, * ch 5, s c in next loop, repeat from * across. Ch 5, turn.

5th row: * S c in next loop, ch 5, s c in next loop, ch 5, make a 4-d c cluster in next loop, ch 3, 4-d c cluster in same loop, ch 5, repeat from * across, ending row with 3 loops. Ch 5, turn. 6th row: S c in 1st loop, * make 2 more loops, then ch 5, a 4-d c cluster in ch-3 between clusters of previous row, ch 5, s c in next loop, repeat from * across, ending row with 3 loops. Ch 5, turn. 7th to 11th rows incl: Same as 3rd row. Ch 5, turn. 12th row: S c in 1st loop, make 4 more loops, * then ch 5, a 4-d c cluster in next loop, ch 3, a 4-d c cluster in same loop, make 3 loops, repeat from * across, ending row with 5 loops. Ch 5, turn. 13th row: S c in 1st loop, make 4 more loops, * then ch 5, 4-d c cluster in ch-3 between clusters of previous row, ch 5, s c in next loop, make 3 more loops, repeat from * across, ending row with 6 loops. Ch 6, turn. 14th to 17th rows incl: Same as 3rd row, but making ch-6 loops instead of ch-5. Ch 6, turn. 18th row: S c in 1st loop, make 2 more ch-6 loops, then ch 6, * a 4-d c cluster in next loop, ch 3, a 4-d c cluster in same loop, ch 6, s c in next loop, make 3 more ch-6 loops, then ch 6, repeat from * across, ending row with 3 loops. Ch 6, turn. 19th row: Same as 6th row, but making ch-6 loops instead of ch-5 loops, and having more loops between the clusters. Break off.

Jabot. Starting along center of jabot, ch 68, turn, and make d c in 4th ch from hook, and d c in each ch to end. Ch 5, turn. 1st row: * Skip 2 d c, d c in next d c, ch 2, repeat from * across (22 sps). ** Then ch 2, d c under turning ch, repeat from ** 3 more times (this is lower edge). Then ch 2 and working along opposite side of d c, make 22 sps as before (this is neck edge). Ch 5, turn. 2nd row: D c in next d c, ch 2, d c in next d c (2 sps made), make 22 more sps, ch 2, d c in same place as last d c (this is an increase), ch 2, d c in next d c, ch 2, d c in same place (another increase), ch 2, and make sp over sp to end of row. Ch 5, turn. 3rd to 15th rows incl: Repeat 2nd row, increasing 2 or 3 sps at lower edge of jabot to keep work flat. The 15th row completes foundation for ruffles. At end of 15th row, ch 5, turn and continue for outside ruffle as follows:

Outside Ruffle: 1st row: * S c in next sp, ch 5, s c in next sp, ch 5, s c in same sp (thus increasing 1 loop), ch 5, repeat from * 10 more times (thus increasing in every other sp). Then increase in every 2nd and 3rd sps to within 33 sps from end of row. Then increase in every other sp to correspond with beginning of row. Ch 5, turn. 2nd to 5th rows incl: S c in each loop with ch 5 between each s c. Ch 6, turn. 6th and 7th rows: Same as 2nd row but making ch-6 loops instead of ch-5 loops. Ch 6, turn. 8th and 9th rows: Repeat 5th and 6th rows of collar, but making ch-6 loops instead of ch-5 loops. Break off.

Center Ruffle: Attach thread to ch-2 at one side of neck edge, between 8th and 9th rows (counting from 1st row of sps) and work along this line around to other side of neck edge as follows: 1st row: * Ch 5, s c in next sp, ch 5, s c in next sp, ch 5, s c in next sp, ch 5, s c in same sp. Repeat from * 6 more times. Then increase in every other sp to within 21 sps from end of row. Then increase in every 3rd sp to correspond with beginning of row. Ch 5, turn. 2nd to 9th rows incl: Repeat 2nd to 9th rows incl. of Outside Ruffle. Break off.

Inner Ruffle: Attach thread to ch-2 at one side of neck edge, between 1st and 2nd rows of sps, and work as for center ruffle. Break off.

Place jabot over collar as in illustration and tack in place on one side. Fasten other side with a snap fastener. Starch and press.
