Placemats & Runner Number 7713 Pattern

MATERIALS:
J. & P. COATS KNIT-CRO-SHEEN, 3 balls of White or Ecru are suffi­cient for 2 place mats, each about 13 x 18 inches, and a runner, about 14 x 28 inches.
Steel Crochet Hook No. 6 or 7.

PLACE MAT … Ch 156 to measure 16¼ inches. 1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, (ch 19, skip 10 ch, sc in next ch) 14 times. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: Sl st in 1st sc, (sc in each of 19 ch, sl st in next sc) 14 times. Ch 25, turn. 3rd row: * Skip 9 sc of next 19-sc loop, sc in next sc, ch 19. Repeat from * across, ending with ch 25, sl st in sc at end of previous sc row; turn. Sl st in each of 15 ch of ch-25. 4th row: Sc in next 10 ch, (sl st in next sc, sc in next 19 ch) 13 times; sl st in next sc, sc in next 10 ch. Ch 1, turn. 5th row: Sl st in 1st sc, (ch 19, sc in center sc of next loop) 13 times; ch 19, sc in last sc. Ch 1, turn. Repeat the 2nd to 5th rows incl until 12 rows of sc loops are made (24 rows in all). Ch 10 to turn at end of 24th row. 25th row: * Skip 9 sc of next 19-sc loop, sc in next sc, ch 10. Repeat from * across, ending with ch 10, sc in last loop.

BORDER1st rnd: 3 sc in corner sc, sc in each ch and in each sc around, making 3 sc at each corner.
   Pick up only the back loop of each sc throughout.
   2nd to 6th rnds incl: Sc in each sc around, making 3 sc in center sc of each corner. Break off.

RUNNER … Ch 112 to measure 11¾ inches and work in pattern as for Place Mat, having 10 sc loops on the row in­stead of 14-sc loops, and working until 28 rows are completed (14 rows of sc loops). Work Border as for Border of Place Mat, making 10 rnds instead of 6 rnds. Starch, pin out to measurements and press.
