Granny Bedspread Pattern

Make separate sections at your leisure and join them into a bedspread of any desired size.

Approximate Size 82 inches by 101 inches.
(For a Full Double Bed Size)

To make a full size double bedspread use: 10 skeins of Ivory No. 2, Lorraine Boilproof Cro­chet and Knitting Cotton, Article 50; 1 skein Beige No. 3; 6 skeins Pastel Green No. 5; 3 skeins each of Pastel Blue No. 8, Yellow No. 7, Delft Blue No. 9 and Salmon Rose No. 6. 1 Steel Crochet Hook, Standard Size 3.

Each square should measure about 6 inches from corner to corner, diagonally.

Squares—With 1st color, ch 5, join with a slip st; ch 3, 2 d c in ring, ch 2, 3 d c in ring, ch 2, 3 d c in ring, ch 2, 3 d c in ring, ch 2, join with a slip st to top of ch 3 at beginning of round; break off. 2nd round: with 2nd color, work 3 d c in space made by ch 2 in round below, ch 2, 3 d c in same space as last 3 d c, ch 1, * 3 d c in next space, ch 2, 3 d c in same space as last 3 d c, ch 1; repeat from * to end of round and fasten off. 3rd round: with 3rd color, work 3 d c in a corner space, ch 2, 3 d c in same space as last 3 d c, ch 1, 3 d c in next space, ch 1, 3 d c in next corner space, ch 2, 3 d c in same space; continue in this way to end of round and fasten off. 4th round: with 4th color, work 3 d c in first corner space, ch 2, 3 d c in same space, ch 1, 3 d c in next space, ch 1, 3 d c in next space, ch 1, 3 d c in next corner space, ch 2, 3 d c in same space; continue in this way to end of round, and fasten off. 5th round: with next color, work 3 d c in corner space, ch 2, 3 d c in same space, ch 1, 3 d c in next space, ch 1, 3 d c in next space, ch 1, 3 d c in next space, ch 1, 3 d c in next corner space, ch 2, 3 d c in same space; continue in this way to end of round and fasten off. 6th round: with next color, work 3 d c in corner space, ch 2, 3 d c in same space, * ch 1, 3 d c in next space, repeat from * 3 times; ch 1, 3 d c in next corner space, ch 2, 3 d c in same space, ch 1, 3 d c in next space; continue in this way to end of round and fasten off. 7th round: with next color, work 3 d c in corner space, ch 2, 3 d c in same space, * ch 1, 3 d c in next space, repeat from * 4 times; ch 1, 3 d c in next corner space, ch 2, 3 d c in same space, ch 1, 3 d c in next space; continue in this way to end of round and fasten off. 8th round: with next color, work 3 d c in corner space, ch 2, 3 d c in same space, * ch 1, 3 d c in next space, repeat from * 5 times; ch 1, 3 d c in next corner space, ch 2, 3 d c in same space, ch 1, 3 d c in next space; continue in this way to end of round and fasten off. Make 192 squares in Combination A, and 165 squares in Combination B.

Working from wrong side, sew the squares together with overhand stitch, taking up top thread only of edge sts so that the lower thread shows as a continuous line on right side; take care that seams do not bind and that corners meet exactly.

Two Color Combinations are used in this bed­spread. The order in which the colors are used in each combination is given below.

Combination A
1st round—Beige
2nd round—Ivory
3rd round—Pastel Blue
4th round—Yellow
5th round—Delft Blue
6th round—Salmon Rose
7th round—Ivory
8th round—Pastel Green

Combination B
1st round—Salmon Rose
2nd round—Delft Blue
3rd round—Pastel Blue
4th round—Yellow
5th round—Pastel Green
6th round—Salmon Rose
7th round—Ivory
8th round—Ivory

Fringe—Wind thread around a 6-inch card­board, cut at one end, tie 6 strands in each space on 3 edges of spread.

NOTE: If so desired, 18 skeins of Ivory or White may be used for entire spread.
