MATERIALS REQUIRED
American Thread Company "Dawn" Knitting Worsted
16 – 1 ¼ oz. Skeins Shade #1221 Turquoise Blue
2 – 1 ¼ oz. Skeins White
1 each, Bone Crochet Hooks #3 and #4
4 large and 4 small buttons for Coat
1 ½ yds. ⅝-inch Grosgrain Ribbon for Hat
1 – 4-inch Talon Slide Fastener for Bag.

Gauge

7 patterns=3 inches 8 rows=3 inches

COAT

BACK YOKE. With #4 hook, ch 59 and work 58 s c on ch (about 11 inches).

2nd Row. 1 s c in each s c taking up back loop of st only.

3rd Row. 1 s c in each s c taking up both loops of st.

Repeat 2nd and 3rd rows for 15 more rows.

19th to 26th Row. Decrease 4 s c at end of each row for shoulder, break yarn. With wrong side of work toward you attach yarn in 1st s c at lower edge of yoke * 2 s c in first s c, 1 s c in next s c, repeat from * across row ending with 2 s c in last s c.

2nd Row. Begin star st pattern. Ch 3, insert needle in 2nd st of ch, pull through, insert needle in next st of ch, pull through, insert needle in 1st s c (taking up back loop of st only for entire row) and pull through, insert needle in next s c, pull through, yarn over and pull through all sts on needle. * ch 1, (The ch 1 is referred to as the eye of the star st ) insert needle in eye of st, pull through, insert in 1 thread of side of star, pull through, insert in next s c, pull through, insert in next s c, pull through, yarn over and pull through all loops on needle, repeat from * across row.

3rd Row. For the remainder of the back take up both loops of st. Ch 1, 2 s c in 1st eye of st, 1 s c in loop of st, then 1 s c in each eye and loop across row ending with 2 s c in last loop of star st.

4th Row. Work pattern even and work 1 row of s c even.

6th Row. Work pattern across row, ch 3, turn.

7th Row. 2 s c on ch and continue s c to end of row, ch 5, turn.

8th Row. 1 Pattern on ch and continue pattern to end of row working 1 pattern on last 2 s c.

Continue the two rows of pattern for 35 more rows or until length desired allowing for a ¾-inch border of s c.

LEFT FRONT. Ch 27 and work 26 s c on ch.

2nd Row. 1 s c in each s c, working into back loop of st and decreasing 2 s c at neck.

3rd, 5th and 7th Rows. Decrease one st at the beginning of row work 1 s c in each st taking up both loops of st.

4th Row. Same as 2nd row.

6th Row. Work even in s c taking up back loop of st.

8th, 10th, 12th Rows. Slip st back 4 sts for shoulder, 1 s c in each s c.

9th Row. Decrease 1 st at neck and drop last 4 s c at shoulder.

11th Row. Work even.

13th Row. 2 s c, break yarn.

With wrong side of work toward you join yarn at lower edge of yoke and work * 1 s c in first s c, 2 s c in next s c, repeat from * across row.

2nd to 9th Rows. Work even.

10th Row. Work pattern to end of row, ch 7 for underarm, turn.

11th Row. 6 s c on ch and work s c in each s c.

Repeat the two rows of Pattern for 36 more rows.

RIGHT YOKE. Ch 27, work 26 s c on ch and break yarn.

2nd Row. Join yarn opposite end in 3rd back loop of 3rd st, 1 s c in each remaining s c.

3rd Row. Taking up both loops of st, 1 s c in each s c decreasing 2 sts at end of row for neck.

4th & 6th Rows. Decrease 1 st at the beginning of row, 1 s c in each s c working into back loop of st.

5th & 7th Rows. Decrease 1 s c at end of row.

8th Row. Work even.

9th Row. Sl st back 4 s c for shoulder and decrease 1 s c at end of row.

10th Row. Drop the last 4 s c and work 1 row even.

12th Row. Same as 10th Row.

13th Row. Same as 9th row, break yarn.

With wrong side toward you join yarn at lower edge of yoke and work * 2 s c in 1st s c and 1 s c in next s c, repeat from * across row.

2nd Row. Work patterns across row.

3rd to 10th Row. Work even.

11th Row. S c in each s c, ch 9, turn.

12th Row. Work 3 patterns on ch 9 and continue pattern across row.

13th Row. Continue the 2 rows of pattern for 35 more rows.

SLEEVE. Ch 43, work 42 s c on ch.

2nd Row. Star st across row and work 4 more rows even.

7th Row. 2 s c in first and last s c, 1 s c in each remaining s c and work 5 rows even.

13th Row. Same as 7th row and work 5 rows even.

19th Row. Same as 7th row and work 5 rows even.

25th Row. Same as 7th row and work 2 rows even.

28th, 30th, 32nd Rows. Sl st back 2 s c and drop the last 2 s c.

29th, 31st, 33rd, 35th, 37th, 38th Rows. Work even.

34th & 36th Rows. Sl st back 1 s c and drop last s c.

39th Row. S c in both eye and loop of first pattern, next 2 patterns s c in loops only, next 2 patterns, s c in both eye and loop, next 2 patterns s c in loops only, next 3 patterns, s c in eye and loop, next 2 patterns loops only, next 2 patterns eye and loop, next 2 patterns, loops only, last pattern eye and loop.

40th & 42nd Rows. Work even.

41st Row. S c in eye and loop of first pattern, next 2 patterns s c in loops only, next pattern, eye and loop, next 2 patterns, loops only, next pattern eye and loop, next 2 patterns, loops only, next pattern eye and loop, next 2 patterns, loops only, last pattern, eye and loop.

43rd Row. S c across row working into loops only.

44th Row. Sl st back 1 s c and work 3 patterns, break yarn. Work other sleeve to correspond and sew up sleeve seams.

CUFFS. Ch 51, work a row of s c, 3 s c in end ch and work s c on other side of ch with 3 s c in end ch. Work 2 more rows of s c working 3 s c in center of each end. Sew cuffs on sleeve and trim with buttons as illustrated.

Sew underarm seams matching rows. Sew shoulder seams. Join yarn at lower edge of left front yoke and work 1 s c in s c, 2 s c in first pattern of coat front, 1 s c in next s c, 2 s c in next pattern, and continue down front, 2 s c in corner, 1 s c in each s c across lower edge of coat, 2 s c in corner and work right front to correspond, break yarn.

2nd Row. Join in 1st s c on left front, 1 s c in each s c to corner, taking up back loop of st, 2 s c in corner, s c in each s c across lower edge taking up both loops, 2 s c in corner and work other side to correspond.

3rd Row. Work down right front to corner, ch 1, turn.

4th Row. 1 s c in each of the first 30 s c, ch 4, skip 4 s c, s c in next s c (buttonhole) * 1 s c in each of the next 7 s c, repeat buttonhole, and repeat from * to neck, ch 1, turn.

5th Row. 1 s c in each s c all around coat working 1 s c in each ch of buttonholes and 2 s c in each corner.

6th & 7th Rows. Work across front only, break yarn.

8th Row. Attach yarn at lower edge of right front and work to neck, ch 1, turn and work a row all around coat, do not break yarn.

COLLAR. Work a row of s c drawing the neck in to 15 inches, ch 1, turn and work 1 row of s c, 1 row of pattern, 1 row of s c, 1 row of pattern.

Bind seams to prevent stretching.

HAT

With #4 hook and White yarn ch 19 and work 18 s c on ch. (about 3 ¼ inches).

2nd & 4th Rows. Work pattern same as coat.

3rd Row. S c even.

5th Row. Skip eye of pattern work across row, slip st in last st, ch 3, turn.

6th, 8th Rows. Work pattern.

7th Row. Same as 5th row.

9th to 18th Row. Repeat 5th and 6th row. There should be 2 patterns left.

19th Row. Ch 1, turn, insert needle in loop, pull through, insert needle in next loop, pull through, yarn over and pull through all loops on needle, break yarn and work 2 more white sections and 3 blue sections. Sew the sections together, alternating colors.

BRIM. With wrong side of hat towards you attach White and with #3 hook work in s c very firmly.

1st Row. Increase 2 s c in each section.

2nd Row. Increase in every 5th s c and work 3 rows even.

6th Row. Increase in every 12th s c and work 3 rows even.

10th Row. Same as 6th row and work 2 rows even. Finish Brim with a row of pattern. Trim hat with ribbon.

BAG

With white and #4 needle ch 27 and work 26 s c on ch (4 ½ inches).

2nd Row. Join Blue and work a row of s c carry the White under the sts.

3rd Row. With White work a row of pattern carry Blue under sts.

4th Row. Same as 2nd Row.

5th Row. Same as 3rd Row.

6th Row. With Blue work 3 s c in one pattern, 2 s c in next pattern, repeat across row, break Blue yarn and continue with White, work 5 rows even.

12th Row. 1 s c in eye of pattern, 2 s c in loop, work even across row working 2 s c in eye and 1 s c in loop of last pattern, work 2 rows even, break yarn and work another section.

Crochet the two sections together in pattern st increasing 1 pattern at corners and leaving the first 3 rows free. Work a row of s c around top of bag.

HANDLE. With Blue, ch 3, join and work 1 s c in each st, continue rows of s c until handle measures about 7 ½ inches.

Sew handle in position and finish bag with a Talon Slide Fastener.
