Daylilies Motif Pattern

MATERIALS:
J. & P. Coats Tatting-Crochet, Size 70, 8 balls of No. 37 Dark Lavender, 2 balls of No. 48 Hunter's Green and 1 ball of No. 9 Yellow.
Steel Crochet Hook No. 14.
A pair of yellow pillow cases.

FIRST MOTIF … Starting at center with Dark Lavender, ch 8. Join with sl st to form ring.

PETAL (Make 5)1st row: Ch 3, 3 dc in ring. Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: Dc in first dc, 2 dc in each of next 2 dc, 2 dc in top of turning chain. Ch 3, turn. 3rd and 4th rows: Skip first dc, dc in each dc across, dc in top of turn­ing chain. Ch 3, turn. 5th row: Skip first dc, holding back on hook the last loop of each dc make dc in next 2 dc, thread over and draw through all loops on hook (cluster made), dc in next 2 dc, cluster over next 2 dc and top of turning chain. Now working along side of petal (ch 3, sl st in base of next st) 4 times; ch 3, sc in ring (petal com­pleted). Work as for First Petal until 5 petals are completed. Break off.

CENTER … Attach Yellow between any 2 petals, in same place make sc, ch 5 and sc; * ch 5, make sc, ch 5 and sc between next 2 petals. Repeat from * around. Join and break off.

Last rnd: Attach Hunter's Green to end dc on 4th row of any petal, * (ch 7, sc in tip of next cluster) twice; ch 7, sc in end st of next row, ch 5, sc in corresponding st on next petal. Repeat from * around. Join and break off.

SECOND MOTIF … Work as for First Motif until petals and Center are completed.

JOINING … Attach Green to any petal as on First Motif, ch 7, sc in tip of next cluster, ch 3, sl st in corre­sponding loop on First Motif, ch 3, sc in next cluster on Second Motif, ch 7, sc in end st of next row, ch 2, dc in corresponding sp on First Motif, ch 2, sc in end st of 4th row of next petal on Second Motif, ch 7, sc in next cluster, ch 3, sl st in corresponding loop on First Motif, ch 3, sc in next cluster on Second Motif. Complete rnd as for First Motif (no more joinings).

THIRD MOTIF … Work as before, joining adjacent sides as Second Motif was joined to First Motif, leaving one petal free at lower edge.

FOURTH MOTIF … Same as Third Motif, leaving one petal free at top edge.
   Make 11 more motifs, joining as be­fore, alternating free petals on top and lower edges.
   Make another piece in this manner. Sew to pillow case, joining points of free petals on every other motif. Starch motifs lightly and press.
