Water Lily Bath Set Decorative Crochet Pattern

MATERIALS:
J. & P. Coats or Clark's O.N.T. Pearl Cotton, Size 5: 4 balls of No. 15 Shaded Pinks, 7 balls of No. 48 Hunter's Green, 1 ball each of No. 11 Orange and No. 46-A Mid Rose, or
J. & P. Coats Knit-Cro-Sheen: 2 balls of No. 15 Shaded Pinks, 2 balls of No. 48 Hunter's Green and 1 ball each of No. 43 Dk. Yellow and No. 46-A Mid Rose.
Milward's Steel Crochet Hook No. 7.
A grey bath towel, a hand towel and a wash cloth.

FLOWER (Make 5)—Large Petal (Make 6) ... Starting at center with Shaded Pinks, ch 15. 1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, half dc in next ch, dc in next ch, tr in next 6 ch, dc in next ch, half dc in next ch, sc in next 2 ch.
   Now work in rnds as follows: 1st rnd: Ch 3, sc in same place as last sc was made; working along opposite side of starting chain, sc in each ch across. Ch 3, sc in each st across, ending with sl st in ch-3 sp. 2nd rnd: Ch 3, 4 dc in same sp, dc in each sc around, mak­ing 5 dc in next ch-3 sp. Sl st in top of ch-3. 3rd rnd: Sc in same place as sl st, sc in next dc, in next dc make sc, ch 3 and sc; sc in each dc around, making sc, ch 3 and sc in center dc of next 5-dc group. Join and break off.

SMALL PETAL (Make 4) ... Work as for Large Petal until first rnd is completed. Break off.

STAMEN ... With Orange, ch 10. First Spoke: Thread over, insert hook in 3rd ch from hook, draw loop through, (thread over, insert hook in same ch, draw loop through) twice; thread over and draw through all loops on hook (clones knot made), sl st in next ch and each ch across. Second Spoke: Ch 10, work as for First Spoke, ending with sl st in same place as last sl st on First Spoke. Make 5 more spokes, ending each one same as Sec­ond Spoke. Break off.

BUD (Make 7) ... With Mid Rose work as for Large Petal until 1st rnd is completed. 2nd rnd: 3 sc in same sp as sl st, sc in each sc around to next sp, sc in sp, ch 4, sc in 4th ch from hook (picot made), 2 sc in same sp, sc in each remaining sc around. Join and break off.

STEM ... Starting at long side with Hunter's Green, ch 20. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Break off.

LARGE LEAF (Make 4) ... Starting at center with Hunter's Green, ch 15. 1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, half dc in next ch, dc in next ch, tr in next 9 ch, dc in next ch, 5 half dc in next ch; working along opposite side of starting chain, make dc in next ch, tr in next 9 ch, dc in next ch, half dc in next ch, sc in next ch. Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: Skip first st, holding back on hook the last loop of each dc make dc in next 2 sts, thread over and draw through all loops on hook (1 dc de­creased); (2 dc in next st—1 dc in­creased—dc in next st) 5 times; 2 dc in each of next 5 sts, (dc in next st, 2 dc in next st) 5 times; dec 1 dc, dc in next st. Ch 3, turn. 3rd row: Skip first dc, dec 1 dc, dc in next dc, (2 dc in next dc, dc in next 2 dc) 5 times; 2 dc in each of next 6 dc, (dc in next 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc) 5 times; dc in next dc, dec 1 dc, dc in top of turning chain. Ch 3, turn. 4th row: Skip first dc, dec 1 dc, * dc in next 3 dc, 2 dc in next dc. Repeat from * across to within last 3 sts, dec 1 dc, dc in top of turning chain. Ch 1, turn. 5th row: Skip first dc, sc in next dc, half dc in next dc, dec 1 dc, dc in next dc, * 2 dc in next dc, dc in next 3 dc. Repeat from * around to within last 5 sts, dec 1 dc, half dc in next dc, sc in next dc.
   Now working across top, make sc closely across to center, sl st in center, ch 7, sl st in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across, sl st in same place on leaf, sc closely around remainder of leaf. Join and break off.

SMALL LEAF ... Work as for Large Leaf until 3 rows are completed. 4th row: Now, working across top, com­plete as for Large Leaf. Starch petals and press.
   Sew Large and Small Petals together to form Water Lily. Sew Stamen to center. Sew Water Lilies, Buds and Leaves in place.

EDGING ... Mark off ½ inch sps across towel ½ inch from lower edge. 1st row: Attach Hunter's Green at first mark, make 2 sc, ch 3 and 2 sc in same mark, * sc in next mark, in next mark make 2 sc, ch 3 and 2 sc. Repeat from * across. Break off.

FRINGE ... Cut 5 strands of Green, each 8 inches long. Double these strands to form a loop, insert hook in ch-3 sp, draw loop through. Draw loose ends through loop and pull up tightly to form a knot. Make a fringe in each ch-3 sp across. Pick up 5 strands of first fringe and 5 strands of second fringe and make a knot 1 inch down and in center between 2 previous knots. Pick up remaining strands of second fringe and first 5 strands of next fringe and knot as before. Continue in this manner across. Trim ends evenly.
   Make edging and fringe on opposite end of each towel in same way.

WASH CLOTH EDGING ... At­tach Green to any corner and work around as for Edging on Towel. Join and break off.
