Girl's Bonnet Pattern

Size: 6 mo. to 1 yr.

REQUIREMENTS:

YARN: 3-ounces of 4-ply Knitting Worsted.
Angora for trimming
CROCHET HOOK: Bone #3

BONNET: Starting at the back of crown. Chain 3 sts; join with a slip st to form a ring. 1st round: Make 6 s c into ring. (Mark the beginning of round with a colored thread as marker). 2nd round: 2 s c in each st around, (12 sts). 3rd round: * 1 s c in next st; 2 s c in next st; repeat from * around once. 4th round: * 1 s c in next 2 sts; 2 s c in next st; repeat from * around once. Continue in the above manner increasing 6 sts in around until you have 11 sts between each increase, 78 sts in round. FRONT PART OF BONNET: Mark off 13 sts for back of neck. Over the next 65 sts start the star stitch pattern. PATTERN: Ch 2, pull up a loop in 2nd ch from hook, pull up a loop m base of ch; pull up a loop in next st, (4 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through all loops; ch 1 (eyelet); * pull up a loop in eyelet; pull up a loop in side of st, pull up a loop in base of st, pull up a loop in each of the next 2 sts, (6 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through all loops, ch 1, repeat from * over row, ending with a s c in last st. ROW 2: Chain 2, turn; make 2 s c in each eyelet on row below, ending with 1 s c in top of turning chain. ROW 3: Chain 2, pull up a loop in 2nd st from hook, pull up a loop in next 3 sts, yarn over and pull through all 5 loops, ch 1, * pull up a loop in eyelet, pull up a loop in side of st, pull up a loop in base of st, pull up a loop in each of the next 2 sts, yarn over, pull through all 6 loops, ch 1, repeat from * across row, ending with a s c in last st. Repeat row 2 and row 3 for pattern. Work until the piece measures 4 inches from start of pattern, ending with row 3 of pattern. NEXT ROW: * 2 s c in next eyelet; 3 s c in next eyelet, repeat from * across row, (16 increases). Break yarn. POKE: Tie yarn at 25th stitch from edge; 1 s c in next 27 sts (center), turn; 1 s c in next 31 sts, turn; 1 s c in next 35 sts, turn. Continue in the above manner working out 4 sts more to the edge every time, until you have worked a complete row. Band at neck edge: Starting at front; s c along side, across back, along second side, (taking in if necessary to fit and shape). Make 2 rows of s c going into every stitch. Break yarn. FINISHING: Holding the wire along last row of poke; using the angora, make a row of s c going over the wire. Fasten ends of wire at each end.
