MATERIALS: J. & P. Coats Knit-Cro-Sheen, 1 ball each of Spanish Red and Yellow ... Steel Crochet Hook No. 3 ... A bone ring.

GAUGE: 7 sc make 1 inch; 7 rows make 1 inch.

Use double thread throughout.

Starting at lower edge with Yellow, ch 10. 1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: 2 sc in first sc (1 sc in­creased), sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn. Repeat 2nd row until piece meas­ures 4½ inches. Break off. Next row: Attach Red to end of row and make sc closely along one side, the lower edge, and the remaining side, ch 1, turn, sc in each sc across, making 3 sc in each corner. Now work top as fol­lows: 1st row: Work off 2 sc as 1 sc (1 sc decreased), sc in each sc across, decreasing 1 sc at end of row. Repeat this row until all sts are worked off. Break off.

CIRCLE ... With Red, ch 2. 1st rnd: 8 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 2nd rnd: 2 sc in each sc around (8 sc in­creased ). Make sc in each sc around, increasing as necessary to keep work flat, until piece measures 2 inches in diameter. Break off. Sew circle in place. Sew ring at top. For Padding, see patternbook page.
