MATERIALS:

J. & P. COATS KNIT-CRO-SHEEN, 1 ball each of a dark color, a light color and White.

Steel crochet hook No. 6 or 7.

3 bone rings.

The above amount of material is suffi­cient for 3 pot holders.

GAUGE: 10 dc make 1 inch; 4 rows make 1 inch.

TOP ... With Dark color, ch 67 to measure 6½ inches. 1st row: Dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across (65 dc, counting turning ch as 1 dc). Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: Dc in each dc and in top st of turning ch. Ch 3, turn. 3rd row: Dc in 3 dc; dc in next dc leaving the last 2 loops on hook, drop Dark, attach White and draw through 2 loops. * Then, holding Light along top of previous row make dc in next 4 dc (thus concealing Light); dc in next dc leaving last 2 loops on hook, drop White, pick up Light and draw through 2 loops; holding White along top of previous row make dc in next 4 dc (thus concealing White); dc in next dc leav­ing last 2 loops on hook, drop Light, pick up White and draw through 2 loops. Repeat from * 4 more times. Carrying Light as before, make 4 White dc, dc in next dc leaving last 2 loops on hook, drop White and Light, attach another ball of Dark and draw through 2 loops; with Dark work 5 dc. Ch 3, turn. Hereafter, changing color and con­cealing unused color as before, work as follows: Work Dark border with balls already attached. 4th row: 4 Dark dc, 5 White dc, * 5 Light dc, 5 White dc. Repeat from * across, ending with 5 Dark dc. Fasten off White. Ch 3, turn. 5th row: 5 Dark dc, 5 Light dc, attach­ing 3rd ball of Dark in last dc of last group, * 5 Dark dc, 5 Light dc. Repeat from * across, ending with 5 Dark dc worked with border ball. Ch 3, turn. 6th row: 5 Dark dc, 5 Light dc, * 5 Dark dc, 5 Light dc. Repeat from * across, end­ing with 5 Dark dc worked with border ball. Fasten off 3rd ball of Dark. Ch 3, turn. Repeat the last 4 rows (3rd to 6th rows incl) 4 more times; then the 3rd and 4th rows once more. Fasten off all but 1 Dark ball. Work 2 rows of Dark border. Fasten off.

BOTTOM ... With White ch 57 to measure 5½ inches. 1st row: Dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in next 3 ch changing to Light in last dc, * 5 Light dc, 5 White dc. Repeat from * 4 more times. With White ch 3, turn. 2nd row: 4 White dc, * 5 Light dc, 5 White dc. Repeat from * across. Fasten off White; with Light ch 3, turn. 3rd row: 4 Light dc changing to Dark in last dc, * 5 Dark dc, 5 Light dc. Repeat from * across. With Light ch 3, turn. 4th row: 4 Light dc, * 5 Dark dc, 5 Light dc. Repeat from * across. Fasten off Dark; with White ch 3, turn. 5th row: 4 White dc, * 5 Light dc, 5 White dc. Repeat from * across. With White ch 3, turn. Repeat 2nd to 5th rows incl 4 more times; then the 2nd row once more. Fasten off.

Place a soft piece of cloth for padding between the 2 crocheted pieces and sew checkered edge of bottom to checkered edge of top. Sew ring to one corner. Make 2 more pot holders same as this.
