Jaunty Junior Boots Pattern

Here are Boots and Slippers for use around the house that will permit you to add to your wardrobe • not tax the facilities of hard pressed manufacturers. The soles are double layers, of Enterprise Yarn, crocheted firm and heavy • they may be sized with lacquer (like the back of a rug) or stiffened with a layer of fiber board between the 2 pieces of the sole • cut the board to fit after crocheting. No. 1 Steel Crochet Hook used for all shoes.

SOLES: These slippers all are to be crocheted on the same sole. Adult or children's soles are alike except for changes where fewer sts are required for the smaller sizes,—use figures for child's sizes at points where indicated in instructions.
Measure length of foot—plus ¼"—make a chain 2½" shorter (childs; 2" shorter) than measure­ments. 2 sc in second st from hook, sc in each st to center ch, hdc in 4 sts (childs; 2 sts) dc to fourth st (childs; third st) from end, hdc in 2 sts (childs; in next st) 5 sc in end st. On other side of chain, hdc in 2 sts (childs; in next st) dc in each st opposite dc on other side, hdc in 4 sts, (childs; 2 sts) sc to end. In both loops, 3 sc in first sc, 2 sc in next, and continue with 5 rows (childs; 4 rows) of sc around. Increase 3 sc around toe in each row, with 2 sc between inc. Inc 3 sc at heel in each row, with sc between increases.
ROW 7: (Childs; Row 6) 1 sl st in both loops of each sc. Fasten off. Make a second piece, to be exactly same size and sew together back-to-back thru 1 loop of each sc on edge.

"JAUNTY-JUNIOR" BOOTS

MATERIALS: 3 balls Red and 1 ball White (or other colors).
Make both pieces of sole in Red.

Top: Join Red to center st at heel end of top-sole, and thru 1 loop of each sl st, 1 sc in each st around, sl st in first sc. Fasten off. Work bal­ance of rows thru both loops.
ROW 2: In White; turn, sc in sl st, (a long sc over next sc, inserting hook down at base of sc, 1 sc in next sc) around. Sl st in first sc. Fasten off.
ROW 3: Turn, sc in Red in sl st, 1 sc in each st around and join.
ROW 4: Ch 1, turn, sc in sl st, sc around. Dec 5 sts at toe with 2 sc between dec. Ch 1, turn, sc around, dec 1 center sc at toe.
ROW 6: Dec 2 sts at heel with 4 sts between. Dec 1 center st at toe.
ROW 7: Ch 1, turn, and in back loops, sl st in sl st, * (sl st, ch 3, sl st) in next sc, sl st in next 2 sc. Repeat from * around. Fasten off.

VAMP: In White, ch 2, 3 sc in starting st. * (Ch 1, turn, sc in each st with 2 sc in end st*) 3 times. (Ch 1, turn, 6 sc) twice. Repeat from * to * twice. Fasten off. With wrong side of last row up, sew in toe of boot.

CUFF: Join White at heel and in remaining loops of sc in Row 6 (behind picot st), 1 sc in each st around to vamp, skip first and last sts on vamp, sc in 6 center sc on vamp, sc around and join.
ROW 2: Ch 1, turn, sc around to second sc from vamp, sc in 6 sc on vamp, skip next sc, sc around and join. Repeat 4 times, except dec 1 more st in center of vamp in each row.
ROW 7: Dec 2 sts at toe.
ROW 8: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st. Repeat 11 times. Fasten off.
ROW 20: Turn, sl st in Red in 1 loop of sl st, ch 2, dc in same st, dc in  1 loop of each sc around, sl st in 2-ch.
ROW 21: Ch 1, turn, (sc in back loop of next dc and on down at back thru remaining White loop directly below) around, join and fasten off.

TRIM: In Red, ch 60, 59 sl sts on ch. Fasten off. Tie in a bowknot. Finish ends with pom pons (made as in Pirate Boots) and tack to top front of cuff.
