Tumbler Muff Pattern, No. 947

Materials: Clark's O.N.T. (7 balls of Ecru and 1 ball of Tobacco Brown) or J. & P. Coats (4 balls of Ecru and 1 ball of Tobacco Brown) Mercerized Crochet, size 10.
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 7.

This material is sufficient for a set of 6 glass jackets.

Base. With Ecru, ch 22, turn. 1st row: S c in 3rd ch from hook, s c in each ch across. Ch 2, turn. 2nd row: S c in each s c across. Ch 2, turn. Repeat 2nd row, increasing 1 s c at both ends of each row, until there are 38 s c in the row. Work straight for 18 rows. Then decrease 1 s c at both ends of each row until 20 s c remain. Work 1 row straight. Break off.

Jacket Part. With Ecru, ch 74 and join with sl st to form ring. 1st rnd: Ch 3, d c in each ch around (to fit around glass snugly). 2nd and subsequent rnds: D c in each d c around. Join. Work until piece measures 2 inches. Next rnd: Ch 1, s c in each d c around. Join. Break off. Sew jacket to base. With 4 strands of Tobacco Brown, overcast the top edge with large stitches. Break off. Finish base in same manner.

Monogram. With 2 strands of Tobacco Brown, work monogram about ¾ inch high and ¾ inch wide, using small groups of over-and-over stitches. (See illustration).
