MATERIALS—Lily SKYTONE Mer­cerized Crochet Cotton:—3-balls Cream and 9-balls Red,—sufficient for 4 Place Mats. Crochet hook size 10. Gauge—12 dc—1”. 4½ rows 1”.

DOILY—(Size—11½” x 17½”)—In Cream, ch 138, sk 4 ch and work­ing over a strand of Red, make dc in next 11 ch, holding last 2 lps of final dc on hook, drop Cream, pull up Red taut and thru these 2 lps on hook. Always join a new color in this way,—thru the last 2 lps of final dc in previous color,—always pulling it up taut first. Working over Cream and following Chart where each square equals 3 dc, make (3 Red dc, 15 Cream dc) 6 times, 3 Red dc and 12 Cream dc. ROW 2—Ch 3, turn, carry Red around on back, sk last dc, dc in next 8 dc, then make (9 Red dc and 9 Cream dc) 7 times. Use the right side of this row as the right side of doily. ROW 3—Ch 3, turn, carry Red around on side toward you (wrong side of doily). Do this on alternate rows so it will not show on right side. Sk last dc, dc in next 5 dc, (15 Red dc, 3 Cream dc) 7 times, 3 more Cream dc. ROW 4—Ch 3, turn, sk last dc, 2 Cream dc, 129 Red dc and 3 Cream dc, join Red thru last Cream dc. ROW 5—Ch 3, turn, sk last dc, dc in next 65 dc, 6 Cream dc and 63 Red dc, join­ing Cream thru last Red dc. ROW 6—Ch 3, turn, sk last dc, 2 Cream dc, 24 Red dc, 18 Cream dc, 18 Red dc, 3 Cream dc, 3 Red dc, 6 Cream dc, 15 Red dc, 18 Cream dc, 24 Red dc, and 3 Cream dc. Continue, following Chart, thru Row 41 (center), then reverse Chart and work back from Rows 40 thru 1 inclusive. Fasten off both threads on back. Repeat for desired number of doilies.

Stretch and pin doily right-side-down in true shape. Steam and press dry thru a cloth.
