BASIC FOUNDATION

Make a chain 2 inches longer than desired length. ROW 1—Sk 4 ch, dc in next 4 ch, (ch 7, sk next 5 ch, dc in next 5 ch) repeated for desired length. Cut and rip excess chain. ROW 2—Ch 4. turn, sk 2 dc, dc in next dc, ch 1, sk 1 dc, dc in next dc, * ch 5, dc in next dc, (ch 1, sk 1 dc, dc in next dc) twice. Repeat from * across. ROW 3—Ch 4, turn, dc in next dc, ch 1, dc in next dc, * ch 3, sc around center of next 2 lps, inserting hook under ch-7 lp in Row 1. Draw sc very tight. Ch 3, dc in next dc, (ch 1, dc in next dc) twice. Repeat from * across. ROW 4—Ch 3, turn, * (dc in next ch-1, dc in next dc) twice, ch 7, dc in next dc. Repeat from * across. Repeat Rows 2, 3 and 4 for desired size, ending with Row 3. Heading Row—Repeat Row 4 except make ch-5 lps instead of ch-7 lps. Fasten off.

MATERIALS REQUIRED:
Lily MERCROCHET Cotton. 4-balls Bright Nile Green size 20.
4-small balls each Scarlet, Shd. Laven­der, Baby Pink and Beauty Pink, and 3-small balls each Beauty Rose, Laven­der and Shd. Peaches, in size 30; suf­ficient for 4 Place Mats.
DAISY Mercerized Crochet Cotton size 20 may be used if preferred.
Crochet hook No. 12.

Size—12 x 17 inches.

CENTER—Starting at one end with Bright Nile Green, ch 148, sk 4 ch, dc in next 4 ch, (ch 7, sk 5 ch, dc in next 5 ch) repeated across. Repeat Rows 2, 3 and 4 of Basic Foundation thru Row 81 (to measure 12½ inches when stretched). Repeat Heading Row. Fas­ten off.

FLOWERCenter—With Scarlet, ch 7, join with sl st to form ring. ROW 1—Ch 1, 11 sc in ring, join with sl st in 1st sc. ROW 2—Ch 1, sc in same sc, sc in next 10 sc, sc in sl st, join with sl st in 1st sc. Fasten off. Petals—With Baby Pink, make a long sc over 1 sc, inserting hook down into Row 1, * ch 6, 3 dtr in one lp of next sc, ch 3, sl st in last dtr for a p, 3 dtr in same sc, ch 6, a long sc over next sc on Center. Repeat from * thru 5 petals. Ch 6, 3 dtr in next sc, ch 2, sl st in one cor­ner of Doily, ch 2, sl st back in last dtr to complete joining-p, 3 dtr in same sc, ch 6, join with sl st in 1st long sc. Fasten off. Repeat on each corner of Doily.

Working across one long side of Doily from left to right, make 1st FLOWER with Baby Pink Center and Beauty Rose petals:—Make 3 petals, join 4th petal to one petal of CORNER FLOWER, join 5th petal to 2d row on Doily, sk 3 rows, join 6th petal to next row. Make 2d FLOWER with Scarlet center and Shd. Peach petals:—Make 3 petals, join 4th petal to last flower, sk 2 rows on Doily, join 5th petal to next row, sk 3 rows, join 6th petal to next row.

Make 3d FLOWER with Beauty Rose center and Lavender petals:—Join 4th petal to last flower, (sk 3 rows, join next petal to next row) twice. Continue, skipping 2 rows and 3 rows alternate­ly between flowers.

4th FLOWER—Baby Pink center, Scar­let petals. 5th FLOWER—Scarlet cen­ter, Beauty Pink petals. 6th FLOWER—Repeat 4th Flower. 7th FLOWER—Lavender center, Shd. Lavender petals. 8th FLOWER—Lavender center, Scar­let petals. 9th FLOWER—Scarlet cen­ter, Shd. Peach petals. 10th FLOWER—Beauty Rose center, Lavender petals. 11th FLOWER—Scarlet center, Beauty Pink petals. Join this to 10th Flower and also to Corner Flower. Repeat on other long side.

END—Working from left to right, re­peat, 1st, 2d, 8th, 7th, 4th, 10th and 11th Flowers, joining each to previous flower and to two ch-5 sps on Doily. Repeat on other end.

2d ROW—Make Corner Flowers with Scarlet Center and Beauty Pink petals, joining to one petal of 1st-Row Cor­ner Flowers. LONG SIDE—Repeat 4th Flower, joining one petal to Corner Flower, one petal to 1st-Row Corner Flower and one petal to next flower in 1st Row. 2d FLOWER—Repeat 10th Flower, joining to last flower, to next petal on same flower in 1st Row and to next flower in 1st Row. Continue, repeating 5th, 1st-Row Corner Flower, 1st Flower, 7th, 9th, 10th, 5th, 7th, 1st and 8th Flowers. Repeat on other long side. END—Repeat 4th. 10th, 11th, lst-Row Corner Flower, 9th, 7th, 1st and 8th Flowers. Repeat on other end.

Stretch and pin doily right-side-down in true shape. Steam and press dry thru a cloth.
