Rnd 1—With T * sc through top row of basket, ch 1. Repeat from * making 4 sc in each 1" around basket. Join last ch-1 with sl st to top of 1st sc. Drop T, join M in same place as sl st. Rnd 2—Ch 3, through back loops only work dc in each ch and in each sc, inc evenly around to 144 sts. Join with sl st to top of ch-3. Drop M, pick up T. Rnd 3—Sc in same place as sl st, * ch 1, skip 1 dc, sc through both loops of next dc. Repeat from * around. Join. Drop T, pick up M. Re­peat rnds 2 and 3 until 6½" from basket, ending with T rnd. End off M. Beading—Ch 4, tr in ch-1 space, tr in next sc, * ch 3, skip next space, next sc and next space; tr in next sc, tr in next space, tr in next sc. Repeat from * joining last ch-3 with sl st to top of ch-4. Ruffle—Rnd 1—Sc in same place as sl st, sc in each of next 2 sts, * 3 sc in space, sc in each of next 3 sts. Repeat from * around. Join. Rnd 2—Sc in next st, * ch 2, skip 2 sts, in next st work 7 tr with ch-1 between; ch 2, skip 2 sts, sc in next st—shell made. Repeat from * around. Join and end off.

DRAWSTRINGS (make 2)—With M ch 24". Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, continuing along other side work sl st in each ch. End off, leaving 8" end. Run drawstrings through beading. Sew ends of each drawstring together, careful not to twist.
