Evening Bag Pattern #1169

MATERIALS:
J. & P. COATS KNIT-CRO-SHEEN,
1 ball of any color.
Steel Crochet Hook No. 6 or 7.
¼ yard of lining material.

   To begin, make a chain 8½ inches long. 1st row: Dc in 6th ch from hook, skip 1 ch, in next ch make dc, ch 2 and dc. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: Sc in 1st sp, ch 5, dc in same place as sc, * in next ch-2 sp make dc, ch 2 and dc. Repeat from * across. Ch 1, turn.
   Repeat 2nd row until piece measures 7¼ inches.
   Next row: Sc in 1st sp, ch 5, in same sp as sc make dc, ch 2 and dc; * in next sp make dc, ch 2, dc, ch 2 and dc. Re­peat from * across. Ch 1, turn. Follow­ing row: Sc in 1st sp, ch 5, dc in same sp, * in next sp make dc, ch 2 and dc. Repeat from * across. Ch 1, turn. Next row: In each sp across make sc, ch 3 and sc. Fasten off.
   Make another piece like this. Place these 2 pieces together, attach thread at
top edge and, working through both thicknesses, make sc's across one long side, across bottom edge and across other long side, keeping work flat. Fasten off.

FRINGE … * Cut 6 strands of thread each 6 inches long. Double these strands to form a loop. Insert hook in 1 sc 4½ inches up from bottom edge on long side and draw loop through. Draw loose ends through loop and pull up tight. Skip 1 sc. Repeat from * around to corresponding position on opposite side. When Fringe is completed, trim ends evenly.

CORD … Make a chain 40 inches long, turn. Make sl st in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Fasten off. Lace Cord twice through the 4th row down from top to form a draw string. Sew ends of Cord together securely. Line Bag with lining material.
