Bracelet Bag Pattern #2066

Materials: J. & P. Coats or Clark's O.N.T. Pearl Cotton, size 5, color 69 Light Steel Blue, 5 balls. Milward's steel crochet hook No. 4. Two thin bracelets, one light and one dark blue. 2 snap fasteners.

Mesh stitch: Insert hook in st specified, draw loop through, thread over, draw another loop through same st, thread over and draw through all loops on hook, ch 1, to hold st.

To begin, ch 60. 1st row: Work a mesh st in 2nd ch from hook, * skip 1 st of ch, work mesh st in next. Repeat from * across. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: * Work mesh st in ch that completes next mesh st. Repeat from * across. Ch 1, turn. Repeat 2nd row until work measures 13 inches. Fasten off.

To make gussets, attach thread at side, down 1½ inches from foundation ch and work a row of s c for 4 inches, ch 1, turn. * S c in s c across, ch 1, turn. Repeat from * 6 more times. Work a similar strip on other side. Then make 2 strips at other end of piece, to correspond. Fold bag and whip edges of gussets together, whip across bottom of bag to give square effect.

Make 2 strips to fasten on bracelet handles as follows: Ch 13, turn. 1st row: Mesh st in 2nd ch from hook, * skip 1 st of ch, mesh st in next. Repeat from * across, ch 1, turn. Work mesh st in mesh st as in bag until strip is 1½ inches long. Sew to bag as in illustration. Sew snap fasteners at sides. Use cardboard or buckram about 2 by 8 inches, to keep bag square at bottom.
