Materials Required.
American Thread Company "De Luxe" Mercerized Crochet and Knitting Cotton or "Star" Crochet Cord.
1 Ball each of White and any Contrasting Color.
1 Steel Crochet Hook No. 7.

With color, ch 6, 5 tr c in first st, ch 3, turn, 1 bean st (thread over and insert in same st 5 times, pull through all sts and ch 1 to close) in each of the next 5 sts, 1 d c in end ch, ch 3, turn.

3rd Row—1 bean st in each bean st with 1 d c between bean sts, d c in end ch, ch 3, turn.

4th Row—1 bean st in each bean st with 2 d c between bean sts. Continue in same manner having one more st between bean sts until there are 7 d c between bean sts.

10th Row—Ch 3, 1 d c in same st, ch 1, 2 d c in same space, * skip 2 sts, s c in next st, skip 2 sts, 2 d c in next st, ch 1, 2 d c in same st, repeat from * to end of row, break thread.

11th Row—With White work a shell between shells and s c in center of shell.

12th Row—Work a shell of 3 d c, ch 1, 3 d c between shells and s c in center of shell, break thread.

13th Row—With color work 1 d c in each d c and s c and 2 d c in center of each shell ending with 2 d c in center of shell (60 d c).

14th Row—With color 4 d c, with White, 4 d c carrying the color under White sts, with color 4 d c carrying the White under color sts, continue across row ending with 4 d c in color and repeat row. In changing color always pick up other color when working off last 2 loops of d c.

15th Row—Increase 1 d c each group of d c in color and work 1 row even. Continue work increasing 1 st in groups of color every other row until there are 9 sts in groups of color and work 1 row even, break thread. Work other side reversing colors. With color crochet the 2 pieces together with a row of s c across the two sides.

Across upper edge work * 4 d c in same space, skip 2 sts, s c in next st, skip 2 sts and repeat from * across row. Make a ring by winding thread around finger 8 times and working over threads in s c.

"Puritan" or "Trojan" Crochet Cotton may be used for the White in the Pot Holders or "Star" Pearl Cotton White or Colors.
