Size 34

Materials: Clark's O.N.T. (15 balls) or J. & P. Coats (11 balls) Mercerized Crochet, size 50, White.
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 12.
6 snap fasteners.

Gauge: 7 loops make 2 inches; 7 rows make 1 inch.

Back. Starting at bottom, ch 288 (to measure about 17 inches), turn. 1st row: S c in 3rd ch from hook (1 p made), ch 4, s c in 3rd ch from hook (another p made), ch 1, s c in 10th ch of foundation (counting back from 1st p made), ch 4, * make a p, ch 4, make another p, ch 1, skip 4 ch of foundation, s c in next ch, ch 4. Repeat from * across (56 loops). Ch 5, turn. 2nd row: * Make a p as before, ch 4, make another p, ch 1, s c in next loop between 2 p's of previous row, ch 4. Repeat from * across. Ch 5, turn. Hereafter, repeat 2nd row decreasing 1 loop at both ends of every 5th row until 46 loops remain. (To decrease, omit the first and last loops.) Work straight until work measures 4 inches. Then increase 1 loop at both ends of every 6th row until there are 62 loops in the row. (To increase 1 loop, make a loop as before, making the s c in 1st p, make another loop, making the s c in next p of same loop.) Ch 5, turn. Work straight until work measures 11½ inches.

To Shape Armholes: Decrease 2 loops at both ends of next row and 1 loop at both ends of every row thereafter, until 50 loops remain. Work straight until work measures 7 inches from 1st row of armhole shaping. To shape shoulders, decrease 2 loops at end of each row until 22 loops remain. Break off.

Front: Starting at bottom, ch 338 (to measure about 19 inches), turn. Work as for back (66 loops), decreasing 1 loop at both ends of every 4th row until 52 loops remain. Work should now measure about 4 inches. Then increase 1 loop at both ends of every 6th row until there are 66 loops in the row. Work straight until underarm measures same as underarm of back.

To Shape Armholes: Decrease 3 loops at both ends of next row and 1 loop at both ends of each row thereafter, until 50 loops remain. Work straight until work measures 2 inches from 1st row of armhole shaping. To shape neck, work across 1st 25 loops (this is neck edge), turn. Hereafter work over these 25 loops, decreasing 1 loop at neck edge every 3rd row until 14 loops remain. Work straight until arm- hole measures same as armhole of back (keeping neck edge straight). To shape shoulder, decrease 2 loops at armhole edge every other row, until all loops are worked off. Break off. Attach thread at base of neck edge and work opposite side to correspond.

Sleeves. Starting at bottom, ch 198 (to measure about 12 inches), turn. Work as for back (38 loops), increasing 1 loop at both ends of every 6th row, until there are 46 loops in the row. Work straight until work measures 4 inches in all. To shape top of sleeve, decrease 1 loop at both ends of every other row until 34 loops remain, and 1 loop at both ends of every 3rd row until 24 loops remain. Then decrease 2 loops at end of each row until 4 loops remain. Break off. Sew up underarm and shoulder seams, leaving an opening of about 4 inches at left side. Sew up sleeve seams and sew sleeves in. Sew snaps on side opening.

Wheels. Starting at center, ch 8, join with sl st to form ring. 1st rnd: 18 s c in ring, join. 2nd rnd: Ch 12, * skip 2 s c, d tr in next s c, ch 7, repeat from * 4 more times. Join last ch-7 with sl st to 5th st of ch-12. 3rd rnd: * 11 s c under ch-7, s c in d tr. Repeat from * around. Join. Break off. Make 27 wheels.

Rosettes. Starting at center, ch 8, join with sl st to form ring. 1st rnd: Ch 6 (to count as d c and ch-3), * d c in ring, ch 3, repeat from * 4 more times, joining last ch-3 to 3rd st of ch-6 first made (6 sps). 2nd rnd: Over each loop work: 1 s c, 1 half d c, 3 d c, 1 half d c, 1 s c. 3rd rnd: Ch 5, * s c in 1st d c of 1st rnd, ch 5, repeat from * around. 4th rnd: Over each loop work: 1 s c, 1 half d c, 5 d c, 1 half d c, 1 s c. 5th rnd: Ch 7, * s c in s c between petals of 3rd rnd, ch 7. Repeat from * around. 6th rnd: Over each loop work: 1 s c, 1 half d c, 7 d c, 1 half d c, 1 s c. Break off. Make 29 rosettes.

Horizontal Strips. Make a tight chain (to measure about 3 yds. in length), turn. 1st row: S c in 2nd ch from hook, s c in each ch across. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: S c in each s c across. Break off.

Sew rosettes and wheels in position as in diagram. Then cut strip into necessary lengths (see diagram) and sew in place. Work 2 rows of s c around lower edge of blouse, sleeves and neck edge.
