New Angles Tablecloth Pattern

MATERIALS—DAISY Mercerized Crochet Cotton size 30:—24-balls or 17 skeins White, Cream or Ecru (sufficient for a cloth size 62" x 75", joined 14 x 17 Flower Blocks). Crochet hook size 13.

FLOWER BLOCK—(Size—4")—Ch 7, sl st in 1st ch. Ch 12, dc in ring. Hold starting end of thread around ring and working over it, (ch 9, dc in ring) 4 times, ch 4, tr in 3d st of 1st ch-12. ROW 2—Ch 1, turn, sc in tr, 2 hdc over next ch-4. Holding back the last lp of each dc on hook, make 2 dc over same ch-4, thread over and pull thru all lps on hook at once (a Cluster made). * Tr in next dc, (a 2-dc Cluster, 2 hdc, 1 sc, 2 hdc and a 2-dc Cluster) all in next lp. Repeat from * around. After final 2 hdc, join with sl st in 1st sc. ROW 3—Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in same sc, (sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next tr, sc in next 3 sts, * 2 sc in next sc) repeated around, ending at *, sl st in 1st sc. ROW 4—* Ch 15, sl st in 5th ch from hook for a p, sk 1 ch, hdc in next dc, (dc in next 2 ch) made into a Cluster, tr in next ch, dtr in next 4 ch, (2 tr in final ch) made into a Cluster, sk 4 sc on center, sl st in next sc. Repeat from * around (12 points). Cut 6" long, thread to a needle and fasten off on back. Mark 1st petal in row. ROW 5—Sc in tip of marked petal, * (ch 5, dtr) 6 times in tip of next petal, ch 5, sc in next petal, ** ch 15, sc in next petal. Repeat from * twice and from * to ** once. Ch 7, dtr in 1st sc. ROW 6—Ch 15, turn, * tr in ch-5 between next 2 tr, ch 5, tr in next sp, ch 5, (dtr, ch 13, dtr) in next sp, (ch 5, tr in next sp) twice, ch 12, dc in next ch-15 lp, ch 12 and repeat from * around. Join final ch-12 with sl st in 3d st of 1st ch-15. ROW 7—Ch 1, turn, sc in same st, * 13 sc in next ch-12 lp, (7 sc in next sp) twice, 15 sc in next (corner) lp, (7 sc in next sp) twice, 13 sc in next sp, sc in dc. Repeat from * around. Join with sl st in 1st sc. ROW 8—Ch 4, * (sk 4 sc, a 2 dc, ch 3 and 2 dc shell all in back lp of next sc) twice, (a shell in back lp of center sc of next sp) twice, sk 3 sc on corner sp, a shell in next sc, sk next 3 sc, a shell in next (center) sc, ch 6, sl st in one lp of starting st of ch-6 for a p, a shell in same sc with last shell, sk 3 sc, a shell in next sc, (a shell in center sc of next sp) twice, sk 3 sc on next sp, a shell in next sc, sk 4 sc, a shell in next sc, ch 1, sk remaining 4 sc on same sp, dc in next sc between sps, ** ch 5, sl st in dc for a p, ch 1 and repeat from * around, ending with ch 1, sl st in 3d st of 1st ch-4, ch 5, sl st in same st. Cut 6" long and fasten off on back.

No. 2FLOWER BLOCK—Repeat to ** in Row 8. Ch 2, sl st in one lp of center st of a corner p on 1st Block, ch 2, sl st back in last dc to complete joining-p, ch 1, sk 4 sc, 2 dc in one lp of next sc, ch 2, sl st in next shell on 1st Block, ch 2, 2 dc back in same sc with last 2 dc to complete shell. Join the next 5 shells in same way to the next 5 shells on 1st Block. Ch 3, sl st in one lp of center st of next p on 1st Block, ch 2, sk last 2 sts of ch-3, sl st back in next ch to complete joining-p, a shell in same sc with last shell and complete Row 8 as for 1st Block.

FILET BLOCK—Ch 7, sl st in 1st st. Ch 3, 3 dc in ring, (ch 5, 4 dc in ring) 3 times, ch 2, dc in top of 1st ch-3. ROW 2—Ch 3, turn, 2 dc in next ch-2 sp, * dc in next 4 dc, (3 dc, ch 5, 3 dc) all in corner ch-5. Repeat from * twice. Dc in next 4 dc, 3 dc in next sp, ch 2, dc in top of 1st ch-3. ROW 3—Ch 5, turn, sk last ch-2 sp, dc in next dc, * ch 2, sk 2 dc, dc in next 4 dc, ch 2, sk 2 dc, dc in next dc, ** ch 2, (dc, ch 5, dc) in 3d st of corner ch-5, ch 2, dc in next dc. Repeat from * twice and from * to ** once. Ch 2, dc in next dc, ch 2, dc in 3d st of next ch-5, ROW 4—Ch 5, turn, sk last ch-2 sp, dc in next dc, (ch 2, dc in next dc) twice, * ch 2, sk 2 dc, dc in next dc, (ch 2, dc in next dc) twice, ch 2, (dc, ch 5, dc) in 3d st of corner ch-5, (ch 2, dc in next dc) 3 times. Repeat from * twice. Ch 2, sk 2 dc, dc in next dc, (ch 2, dc in next dc) 3 times, ch 2, dc in 3d st of next ch-5. ROW 5—Ch 1, turn, 4 sc over last ch-2, 3 sc in each ch-2 sp around, with 7 sc in corner sps. End with 3 sc in bal. of 1st corner, sl st in back lp of 1st sc. ROW 6—Ch 3, (dc, ch 3 and 2 dc) all in same sc. Now join this Block in corner between 1st 2 Flower Blocks:—Ch 3, sl st in one lp of center st of p on center of side of 1st Block, ch 2, sk last 2 sts of ch-3, sl st back in next ch, 2 dc in same corner sc with last shell, ch 2 and working towards corner angle between 2 Flower Blocks, make sl st in next shell on Flower Block, ch 2, 2 dc back in same sc, ** make a shell in center sc in next ch-2 sp, joining it to next shell on Flower Block, * sk next ch-2 sp, then make a shell in center sc on the next sp, joining it to next shell on Flower Block. Repeat from * twice. Make a shell in center sc on corner, joining it to next shell on Flower Block. ** Ch 3, sl st in corner in joined ps of 2 Flower Blocks, ch 2, sl st back in starting st of ch-3, a shell in same corner sc with last shell, joining it to next shell on 2d Flower Block. Repeat from ** to **. Ch 3, sl st in corner p on Flower Block, ch 2, sl st back in starting st of ch-3, a shell in same corner sc, a shell in center sc in next ch-2 sp, (sk next sp, a shell in center sc in next ch-2 sp) 3 times, (a shell, a ch-6 p and a shell) all in corner sc. Make 4 shells across next side in same way and join with sl st in 1st ch-3. Cut 6" long and fasten off on back.

Join another Filet Block in opposite corner-angle on other side of 2 Flower Blocks. Continue to join Flower and Filet Blocks, following Chart, always joining corner ps on Flower Blocks to p on center of sides of adjoining Flower Blocks. Be careful that the petals of stars in center (Row 1) of all Flower Blocks always point in same direction. Fill in all squares between Flower Blocks with Filet Blocks.

Stretch and pin cloth right-side-down on curtain or quilting frames. Lay frames over an ironing board or padded table a section at a time, steaming and pressing dry each section thru a cloth until entire cloth is blocked.
