Size 6 Months

Materials—Fleisher’s Wonderized Babyfair, 3 balls White, 1 ball Color; or Fleisher’s Baby Zephyr, 3-fold, 3 balls White, 1 ball Color.
Fleisher’s De Luxe Zephyr Germantown, 8 balls White, 2 balls Color for Carriage Cover.

White Crochet Hook, Size 5.

SACQUE

Gauge: 2 patterns = 1 inch; 4 rows = 1 inch

Measurements—Chest 20 ins. Lower edge to back of neck 8 ¾ ins. Sleeves—Width 7 ins.

Yoke—With white, ch 62 for neck edge; 1 dc in 4th st from hook and in each st to end; 60 dc (ch 3 counts as 1 dc). Fasten off, turn.

First row of raglan (wrong side)—With color, 1 sc in first dc, ch 2, 1 sc in space between 3rd and 4th dc, * ch 2, 1 sc in space between 3rd and 4th dc from last sc *; repeat between *’s once, ch 2, 1 sc in same space as last sc (inc. for first raglan seam); repeat between *’s 3 times (sleeve), ch 2, 1 sc in same space as last sc (inc. for 2nd raglan seam); repeat between *’s 8 times (back) inc. as before (3rd raglan seam); repeat between *’s 3 times (sleeve), inc. as before (4th raglan seam); repeat between *’s 3 times, end last sc in top of turning ch. Fasten off, turn.

2nd Row (right side)—Join white in first sc, ch 3, 2 dc under ch 2, * 3 dc under next ch *; repeat between *’s once (front), 6 dc under next ch (first seam); repeat between *’s 3 times (sleeve), 6 dc under next ch (2nd seam); repeat between *’s 8 times (back), 6 dc under next ch (3rd seam); repeat between *’s 3 times (sleeve), 6 dc under next ch (4th seam); work 2 pats., 2 dc under last ch, 1 dc in last sc (front). Fasten off, turn. Repeat the last 2 rows 4 times, increasing at raglan seam and having 1 more pat. Of 3 dc on each front, 2 more pats. on back and each sleeve after each dc row, 60 pats. in last row, do not break white, turn. Discontinue color.

Lower Part of Sacque—First Row (wrong side)—With white ch 1, 1 sc in first dc, * ch 2, 1 sc in space between 3rd and 4th dc; repeat from * 7 times, ch 3, skip 13 patterns of 3 dc for right sleeve, 1 sc in center of 6 dc of 2nd raglan seam, work next 18 pat. For back, ch 3, skip 13 pats. for left sleeve, 1 sc in center of the 6 dc of 4th raglan seam, finish row, end last sc in top of turning ch.

2nd Row—Ch 3, turn, 2 dc under first ch, * 3 dc under next ch; repeat from * 6 times, 3 dc in each of the next 3 ch sts (3 pats. for underarm), work 18 pats. across back, 3 pats. for underarm as before, work to front edge, end 2 dc under last ch, 1 dc in last sc (40 pats.). Work pat. even, turning at end of each row until 5 ins. below underarm, end with dc row. Fasten off.

Left Sleeve—With white, working from wrong side, 1 sc in space at center of 6 dc of raglan seam at back, * ch 2, 1 sc in space between 3rd and 4th dc; repeat from * 12 times, ch 2, join in first sc.

2nd Row—Ch 3, turn, 2 dc under first ch, 3 dc under each ch to end, join in top of turning ch (14 pats.).

3rd Row—Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in joining st, * ch 2, 1 sc in space between 3rd and 4th dc; repeat from *, end ch 2, slip st in first sc. Repeat last 2 rows until 4 ins. from underarm, end with dc pattern round. Drop White. Join color.

Border—With Color ch 1, turn, 1 sc in space between first and last pattern; * ch 1, 1 sc in space between 3rd and 4th dc, repeat from * to end, ch 1, drop color, with white join in first sc. With white, ch 3, turn, 2 dc under first ch 1, 3 dc under each ch 1, join in top of ch 3. Fasten off.

Edging—With color, working from right side, 1 sc in joining st, * ch 3, 1 slip st in 3rd st from hook (picot), 1 sc in space between 3rd and 4th dc; repeat from *, end slip st in first sc. Fasten off.

Beginning at center of the 6 dc of first raglan seam of front, work right sleeve to correspond. Tack chains at underarm.

Border of Sacque—With color, working from wrong side, 1 sc in foundation ch on neck edge of right front, * ch 2, skip dc row, 1 sc in end st in next ch row; repeat from * to lower edge of front, end 1 sc in top of end st of last dc row, continue around lower edge and left front edge to neck. Fasten off, turn. With white, working from right side, 3 dc under each ch to lower edge, 3 dc in corner sc, continue pat. on lower edge, 3 dc in corner sc, continue up front to neck edge. Fasten off.

Edging—With color, working from right side, work picot edging on last row as on sleeve and continue around neck edge. Fasten off. Steam. Draw ribbon through first dc row of yoke.

CAP

With white, ch 15 for back of neck, 1 dc in 4th st from hook, 2 dc in each st of ch (24 dc, 8 pats.) Work pat. as on lower part on sacque for 15 rows (about 4 ins.), end with dc row. Fasten off.

Next Row—With white, working from wrong side, 1 sc in first st of foundation ch at side of back, * ch 2, skip dc row, 1 sc in end st of next ch row; repeat from * to corner, work 8 pats. across top, work down other side with last sc in foundation ch. Ch 3, turn. Work 24 pats. even until 2 ins. at side of cap, end with dc row. Fasten off, turn.

With color, work ch row. Fasten off, turn. With white work dc row. Continue pattern until there are 4 color stripes, end with dc row. Fasten off, turn. With color work ch row working ch 1 instead of ch 2; continue on neck edge, skipping dc rows, end with sc in end st of ch rows; join in first sc. Drop color; turn. With white, 3 dc in corner sc, 3 dc under each ch to next corner, 3 dc in corner sc, 3 dc under each ch to first dc, join. With color, working from right side, work picot edge as on sleeve around entire cap.

Steam. Draw ribbon through dc row at neck edge, trim as illustrated.

BOOTEES

Foot—With white, ch 42 for sole, 1 sc in 2nd st from hook, and in each st to end (41 sc). Ch 3, turn (right side), skip first sc, 1 dc in each of the next 18 sts, 3 dc in next st, 1 dc in next st, 3 dc in next st, 1 dc in each st to end (45 dc). Work 4 pat. rows as on lower part of sacque. Fasten off, turn. With color working from wrong side, work ch pat. row. Fasten off, turn.

Instep—Working from right side, skip first pats., join white in next sc, ch 3, 2 dc under next ch, work 2 pats. 1 dc under next ch (center front), work 2 pats., 2 dc under next ch, 1 dc in next sc. Fasten off, turn. With color, 1 sc in last dc of last row, work 2 ch pats. draw up o loop in space before and another after center dc, yo and through 3 loops, 1 sc in space between 3rd and 4th dc, work 2 ch pats. working last sc in top of ch 3, join in first sc. Fasten off. Sew back and sole seams.

Leg—Working from right side, join white in seam st at center back, ch 3, 2 dc in space under next ch 2, work 3 pats., 3 dc in space under ch 3 of instep row, 3 dc under last dc of instep row; work 4 pats., drop white, join color, work slip st in top of ch 3, ch 1, turn, 1 sc in space between pats. at back seam, continue ch pat. row, end ch 2, drop color, with white, slip st in first sc, ch 3, turn; work dc pat. round, drop white; with color slip st in top of ch 3. Repeat last 2 rounds once. Fasten off white. With color working from right side, work picot edging as on sleeve. Trim with ribbon as illustrated.

CARRIAGE COVER

Approximate Size 26 inches by 34 inches

Gauge: 7 patterns = 4 inches; 6 rows = 2 inches

With white, ch 107 sts, 1 dc in 4th st from hook and in each st to end; 105 dc (ch 3 counts as 1 dc).

Pattern—First row (wrong side)—Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in first dc, * ch 2, 1 sc in space between 3rd and 4th dc; repeat from *, end 1 sc in top of ch 3.

2nd row—Ch 3, turn, 2 dc under first ch 2, * 3 dc under next ch; repeat from *, end 2 dc under last ch, 1 dc in last sc. Repeat these 2 rows until 28 ins. from beginning, end with 2nd pat. row. Fasten off.

Border—Turn, with color, work as for first pat. row, end 1 sc in turning ch, continue around, ch 2, 1 sc in same st as last sc (corner inc.), * ch 2, skip dc row, 1 sc in space under sc of next ch row; repeat from * to corner, working last sc in first st of foundation ch, ch 2, 1 sc in same st as last sc, continue on lower edge, work corner and other side to correspond, end 1 sc in same st as first sc, ch 2, join in first sc. Fasten off.

2nd row—Turn. With white, working from right side, 3 dc in last ch 2 (corner) space *, work pat. to next corner space, 3 dc-ch 1- 3 dc in corner space (inc.); repeat from * around, end last repeat 3 dc in same space as first 3 dc, ch 1, join in top of first dc. Fasten off.

3rd row—Turn. With dc, work 1 sc under last ch 1 in corner space, work as for first pattern row of center, increasing at corners as in first row of border, join as before. Fasten off. Repeat the last 2 rows until there are 4 dc rows in border.

Edging—With color and working from right side, 1 sc in corner space, * ch 3, 1 slip st in 3rd st from hook (picot), 1 sc in space between 3rd and 4th dc; repeat from * around, end slip st in first sc. Fasten off. Steam.
