BERNAT Nylo Germantown (2 oz. skeins) — 6 White, 6 Scarlet and 10 Dark Navy

1 aluminum crochet hook size I

GAUGE: 3 d c = 1 inch

SQUARES: Using White, ch 13. Row 1: Y o, insert hook in 6th ch from hook and draw up a loop to measure 1 inch, * y o, draw up a loop to measure 1 inch in same ch, repeat from * once more, skip next ch, y o, draw up a loop to meas­ure 1 inch in next ch, y o, draw up a loop to measure 1 inch in same ch, y o, draw up a loop to measure 1 inch in same ch (a cluster), y o and draw through all 13 loops on hook, ** ch 3, work a cluster in same ch as last cluster, skip next ch, work a cluster in next ch, y o and draw through all 13 loops on hook, repeat from ** once more, ch 2, 1 d c in last ch, ch 4, turn. Row 2: Work a cluster in first ch 2 space and one in next ch 3 space, y o and draw through all loops on hook, * ch 3, work a cluster in same ch 3 space as last cluster, 1 cluster in next ch 3 space, y o and draw through all loops on hook, repeat from * once more, ch 2, 1 d c in 3rd st of turning ch, ch 4, turn. Repeat Row 2 once more. Do not break off. * Work 8 s c along edge of square, 3 s c in corner, repeat from * around entire square, join with sl st to first s c at upper left hand corner. Fasten off. Then work as follows: Row 1: With right side facing you, join Scarlet in center s c at lower right hand corner and work 1 s c in this st, 10 more s c to next corner, 3 s c in corner s c, 11 s c to next corner. Fasten off. Do not turn. Row 2: Join Navy in first s c of previous row, ch 3, working in BACK LOOP ONLY I d c in each s c to corner st, 2 d c, ch 1, and 2 d c in corner s c, 1 d c in each s c to end of row, ch 3, turn. Row 3: Skip first d c, working in FRONT LOOP ONLY, 1 d c in each d c to corner, 2 d c, ch 1 and 2 d c in ch 1 space, 1 d c in each d c to end of row, drop Navy, join Scarlet, turn. Row 4: Working in BACK LOOP ONLY, 1 s c in each st to corner, 3 s c in ch 1 space, 1 s c in each st to end of row. Fasten off. Do not turn. Row 5: Repeat Row 2. Row 6: Repeat Row 3. Fasten off. Row 7: Using Scarlet, work 1 row s c around entire square, working 3 s c in each ch 1 space at corners. Fasten off. Make 62 more squares in same manner.

FINISHING: Block squares to measure 8 inches. Lay 2 squares side by side, with White sections in lower left-hand corners. Using Scarlet, sew squares tog through BACK LOOP of each st. Join 7 squares in this manner. Make 9 strips of 7 squares and join tog in same manner. Using Scarlet, with right side facing you work 1 row s c around entire afghan, working 3 s c in each corner.
