Materials Required:
AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY
"DAWN" WORSTED FLOSS, Article W 16.

17-1 oz. Balls White or any Color desired.
1-1 oz. Ball Contrasting Color for Trim.
3 Yds. ½ inch Ribbon.
2½ Yds. 1 inch Ribbon.
2 or 3 Small Buttons.
1 Bone Crochet Hook No. 4.

With main Color, ch 186 (rather loosely), insert needle in 4th st from hook, pull loop up the length of a d c. yarn over, insert needle in same st, pull loop up the same length, yarn over, insert needle in same st, pull loop up the same length, yarn over and pull through all loops on needle, ch 1, skip 1 st of ch, s c in next st, * puff st in next st, (puff st: insert needle in st, pull loop up the length of a d c, yarn over, insert needle in same st, pull loop up the same length, yarn over, insert needle in same st, pull loop up the same length, yarn over and pull through all loops on needle, ch 1), skip 1 st of ch, 1 s c in next st, repeat from * to end of ch, (61 puff sts) ch 2, turn.
2nd Row. Puff st in first s c, 1 s c over the 2 top loops of puff st, * puff st in next sc.sc over the 2 top loops of next puff st, repeat from * 59 times, ch 2. turn. Repeat 2nd row until work is square.
Work 2 s c in first s c, 1 s c over puff st, * 1 s c in next s c, 1 s c over next puff st, repeat from * 59 times, then work 2 s c in same space with last s c, continue working down side in s c having the same number of sts at side as across top, 3 s c in corner st, work lower edge and opposite in the same manner, join.

BORDER: 1 puff st, 1 s c in same st with joining, 1 puff st, 1 s c in next s c, 1 puff st, 1 s c in next s c, continue even in puff st pattern all around increasing 3 times over the 3 corner sts, join, ch 2, turn.
2nd Round. Work in puff st pattern increasing twice over each corner. Work 4 more rounds of puff st pattern, increasing a sufficient number of times at corners to keep border flat, break yarn. Attach trim Color in s c, * ch 3, 2 d c in same st with ch 3, skip the puff st, s c in next s c, repeat from * all around, join, break yarn.

TRIANGLE FOR HOOD: Ch 67, (rather loosely) work a puff st in 4th st from hook, skip 1 st of ch, 1 s c in next st, * puff st in next st, skip 1 st of ch, 1 s c in next st, repeat from * 20 times, ch 2, turn.
2nd Row. Skip the first s c, 1 s c over the puff st, thus decreasing 1 puff st, * 1 puff st in next s c, 1 s c in next puff st, repeat from * across row. (21 puff st patterns) ch 2, turn. Continue working the same as 2nd row, hav­ing 1 less puff st in each row until 1 puff st remains, break yarn.

BORDER: Attach yarn at lower corner and work 24 s c up one side of triangle, 3 s c over the last puff st made, 24 s c down opposite side of triangle, ch 2, turn.
2nd Row. Puff st in first s c, s c in next s c, * puff st in next s c, s c in next s c, repeat from * 10 times, * puff st in next s c, s c in same st, repeat from * twice, then work 12 puff st patterns down opposite side, ch 2, turn.
3rd Row. Puff st in first s c, s c in next puff st, * puff st in next s c, s c in next puff st, repeat from * 11 times, 1 puff st, 1 s c in next s c, puff st in next puff st, 1 s c, 1 puff st in next s c, continue even down opposite side.
Work 2 more rows of puff st pattern even, do not break yarn. Working across front of triangle for turn back, work a row of puff st patterns, ch 2, turn. Work 3 more rows of pattern even, break yarn.
Attach trim Color at end of turn back, ch 3, 2 s d c in same space with ch 3, (s d c: yarn over, insert needle in st, pull loop through, yarn over and pull through all three loops on needle), skip the puff st, s c in next s c, * ch 2, 2 s d c in same space with ch 2, skip the puff st, s c in next s c, repeat from * across front, break yarn.
To make Bunting: Sew the 2 sides of triangle to one corner of bunting at last row of puff st border, leaving the front edge of hood free, turn this edge back at border.
At lower edge of bunting, measure 24 inches on each side from corner and place markers, fold bunting so corner meets markers and lace with ½ inch ribbon through both sections at each side directly under the scallop. Measure about 12 inches from lower edge of hood for shoulder edge. Fold bunting at this point and lace the 2 sections together with ½ inch ribbon, fold opposite shoulder side in same manner.
At top of bunting in back, measure about 6½ inches from each side of point on inside of border, place markers and lace ½ inch ribbon from 1 marker to the other, tie in back to shape hood.
Sew 2 or 3 small buttons in front, sew 1 inch ribbon to bonnet for ties and trim with bows as illustrated.
