Loop Stitch Dog Pattern

Materials Required:

AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY "DAWN" KNITTING WORSTED,
Article W11 or W41 or W42

5 ozs. Amber or color desired.
Or “STAR” RUG YARN, Article 44.
5 skeins Yellow or color desired.
Kapok or cotton for filling.
½ yd. 1 inch Ribbon.
2 Buttons for eyes.
Plastic crochet hook No. 4 or F.

BODY SECTION: Ch 5 join to form a ring, ch 3, 11 d c in ring, join in 3rd st of ch.

2nd Row. Ch 3 (counts as 1 d c), d c in same space, 2 d c in each remaining d c (24 d c), join in 3rd st of ch.

3rd Row. Ch 3, 2 d c in next d c, * 1 d c in next d c, 2 d c in next d c, repeat from * all around, join.

4th Row. Ch 3, 1 d c in next d c, 2 d c in next d c, * 1 d c in each of the next 2 d c, 2 d c in next d c, repeat from * all around, join.

5th Row. Working in d c, increase in every 4th d c (60 d c), join, turn.

6th Row. Ch 2, s d c loop st in same space (s d c loop st: yarn over hook, insert in st, wind yarn over index finger, insert hook through the yarn under the index finger and draw the yarn through st letting the loop fall to right side of work, yarn over and pull through all 3 loops at one time), 1 s d c loop st in each remaining d c, join in 1st loop st.

7th Row. Ch 2 and work 1 s d c loop st in each loop st decreasing 6 loop sts evenly spaced, join in 1st loop st.

8th Row. Ch 2 and work 1 s d c loop st in each loop st, join in 1st loop st. Repeat the last 2 rows 5 times, cut yarn.

HEAD: Ch 5, join to form a ring, ch 3 and work 11 d c in ring, join in 3rd st of ch, turn.

2nd Row. Ch 2 and work 2 s d c loop sts in each d c, join in 1st loop st. Join all rows in same manner.

3rd Row. Increase 1 s d c loop st in every other loop st (36 loop sts).

Next 2 Rows. Work in s d c loop sts increasing 6 sts evenly spaced in each row (48 loop sts in last row).

6th Row. Work even in s d c loop sts.

Next 6 Rows. Working in s d c loop sts, decrease 4 loop sts evenly spaced in each row.

13th and 14th Rows. Work even in s d c loop sts, cut yarn. Fill body and head with kapok or cotton and sew head to body.

LOWER LEG: Ch 5, join to form a ring, ch 3, 11 d c in ring, join in 3rd st of ch, turn.

2nd Row. Ch 2, 1 s d c loop st in each d c, join in 1st loop st. Join each row in same manner.

3rd Row. Working in loop sts, increase 9 loop sts evenly spaced.

Work 7 rows even in s d c loop sts, cut yarn leaving an end. Work another lower leg in same manner.

UPPER LEG: Work same as lower leg but work 6 rows even in loop sts, cut yarn leaving an end.

Work another leg in the same manner.

TAIL: Work same as lower legs but work 5 rows in loop sts.

EARS: Ch 22, s c loop st in 2nd st from hook (s c loop st: wind yarn over index finger, insert hook in st, draw yarn through pulling yarn from under index finger, drop loop from hook letting loop fall to right side of work and complete s c), 1 s c loop st in each remaining st of ch, working on other side of ch, 1 s c loop st in each st, join, do not turn, 1 s c loop st in each of the next 20 loop sts, cut yarn leaving an end.

Work another ear in same manner.

NOSE: Ch 2, 4 s c in 2nd st from hook, join.

2nd Row. Ch 1, 2 s c in each s c, without joining rows work 1 row even in s c.

Next Row. Increase 2 s c evenly spaced, then work 1 row even, cut yarn leaving an end. Fill with kapok and sew in position.

TO ASSEMBLE: Fill lower legs with kapok and sew to body section starting at 5th row and leaving about 8 d c free at center between legs.

Fill upper legs with kapok and sew directly above lower legs leaving about 3 rows free. Fill tail with kapok and sew in position. Sew buttons in position for eyes. Embroider nose and mouth in Black with “STAR” Six Strand Embroidery Cotton and sew in position as illustrated. Sew ears to side of head. Finish with ribbon bow.
