Mats are worked with a double strand of thread throughout.
SMALL MAT—MOTIF: With White ch 7, join to form a ring, ch 3 (counts as 1 d c) and work 17 d c in ring, join (18 d c).
2nd Row—Ch 3, 3 d c in same space, slip loop off hook, insert in 3rd st of ch and pull loop through, ch 1 to tighten st, ch 3, 4 d c in next d c, slip loop off hook, insert in 1st d c and pull loop through, ch 1 to tighten st (popcorn st), * 1 d c in next d c, popcorn st in next d c, ch 3, popcorn st in next d c, repeat from * all around ending row with 1 d c in next d c, join in top of 1st popcorn st.
3rd Row—Sl st into loop and work 2 popcorn sts with ch 3 between in same space, * 1 d c in popcorn st, 3 d c in next d c, 1 d c in next popcorn st, 2 popcorn sts with ch 3 between in next loop, repeat from * all around ending row with the 5 d c, join, break thread. Attach Yellow and work 3 s c, ch 1, 3 s c in next loop, 1 s c in next popcorn st, 1 s c in each of the next 5 d c, 1 s c in next popcorn st, repeat from beginning all around, join, break thread. Work 6 more motifs in same manner. Sew motifs together as illustrated having 2 motifs in 1st row, 3 motifs in 2nd row and 2 motifs in 3rd row and picking up back loop of sts only.
With Yellow work a row of s c around entire mat, working a ch 3 picot in the middle of each d c section, in the middle of loop between popcorn sts and at each joining. For large size mat work 13 motifs in same manner. Sew motifs together, having 4 motifs in 1st row, 5 motifs in 2nd row and 4 motifs in 3rd row.
For medium size mat work 10 motifs in same manner. Sew motifs together, having 3 motifs in 1st row, 4 motifs in 2nd row and 3 motifs in 3rd row.
