These mats may be made with any of the American Thread Company products listed below:

Approx. Size of Mats:
Large Mat 9 ¼ inches in diameter
Small Mat 8 inches in diameter

Will make 2 mats.

SMALL MAT—Top Section: With Green ch 5, join to form a ring, ch 3, 11 d c in ring, join (12 d c).

2nd Row—Ch 3, 4 d c in same space, drop loop off hook, insert in top of ch 3 and pull loop through, ch 1 to tighten st, ch 2, 5 d c in next d c, drop loop off hook, insert in 1st d c and pull loop through, ch 1 to tighten st (popcorn st), * ch 2, popcorn st in next d c, repeat from * all around, ch 2, join in top of 1st popcorn st.

3rd Row—Sl st to loop, ch 3 (counts as 1 d c), 2 popcorn sts with ch 2 between in same space, * ch 2, popcorn st in next loop, ch 2, 2 popcorn sts with ch 2 between in next loop, repeat from * all around ending row with ch 2, popcorn st in next loop, ch 2, join, sl st to loop, break thread.

4th Row—Attach White in same space, ch 3 (counts as 1 d c) and work 2 popcorn sts with ch 2 between in same space, 3 d c in next loop, * 2 popcorn sts with ch 2 between in next loop, 3 d c in next loop, repeat from * all around, join.

5th Row—Sl st into loop, ch 3 and work 2 popcorn sts with ch 2 between in same space, * 2 d c in next d c, 1 d c in next d c, 2 d c in next d c, 2 popcorn sts with ch 2 between in next loop, repeat from * all around ending row with 2 d c in next d c, 1 d c in next d c, 2 d c in next d c, join.

6th and 7th Rows—Same as last row, increasing 1 d c at beginning and end of each d c section in each row, join.

8th Row—Sl st into loop, ch 3 and work 2 popcorn sts with ch 2 between in same space, * 1 d c in each of the next 4 d c, 2 popcorn sts with ch 2 between in next st, 1 d c in each of the next 4 d c, 2 popcorn sts with ch 2 between in loop between next 2 popcorn sts, repeat from * all around ending row to correspond, join.

9th Row—Sl st into loop and work 2 popcorn sts with ch 2 between in same space, * 2 d c in next d c, 1 d c in each of the next 3 d c, 2 popcorn sts with ch 2 between in loop between next 2 popcorn sts, 1 d c in each of the next 3 d c, 2 d c in next d c, 2 popcorn sts with ch 2 between in next loop, repeat from * all around ending row to correspond, join.

10th and 11th Rows—Same as last row increasing 1 d c in same manner in each d c section in each row, break White.

UNDER SECTION—Work 1st 3 rows same as top section.

4th Row—Attach White in loop, ch 3, 1 d c, ch 2, 2 d c in same space, * 3 d c in next loop, 2 d c, ch 2, 2 d c (shell) in next loop, repeat from * all around ending row with 3 d c in next loop, join. Work next 3 rows same as top section but working a shell in center of each shell instead of popcorn sts, do not work in the d c of shells.

8th Row—Sl st into loop, ch 3, 1 d c, ch 2, 2 d c in same space, * 1 d c in each of the next 4 d c, 2 d c in next st leaving last loop of each d c on hook, thread over and work off all loops at one time (a 2 d c cluster st), ch 2 and work a 2 d c cluster st in same space, 1 d c in each of the next 4 d c, shell in next shell, repeat from * all around ending row with 1 d c in each of the next 4 d c, 2—2 d c cluster sts with ch 2 between in next st, 1 d c in each of the next 4 dc, join.

9th Row—Sl st into loop, shell in same space, * 2 d c in next d c, 1 d c in each of the next 3 d c, 2—2 d c cluster st with ch 2 between in loop between next 2 cluster sts, 1 d c in each of the next 3 d c, 2 d c in next d c, shell in next shell, repeat from * all around ending row to correspond, join.

10th and 11th Rows—Work in same manner as last row increasing 1 d c before and after each shell in each d c section in each row, break thread.

With Green, crochet the 2 sections together having the top section toward you and placing the 2 wrong sides together. Attach thread in loop between popcorn sts, ch 4, 11 tr c in same space, * ch 2, skip 2 d c, 1 s c in each of the next 3 d c, ch 2, skip 2 d c, 12 tr c between next 2 popcorn sts, repeat from * all around ending row to correspond, join, break Green.

Next Row—Attach White in 1st tr c, ch 4, tr c in same space, * 2 tr c in next tr c, repeat from * all around, join, break White.

Next Row—Attach Green in last tr c of scallop, s c in same space, 1 s c in each of the next 2 tr c, * ch 3, 1 s c in each of the next 3 tr c, repeat from * all around, join, break thread.

LARGE MAT—Top Section: Work 1st 11 rows of top section same as small mat.

12th and 13th Rows—Sl st into loop, ch 3 and work 2 popcorn sts with ch 2 between in same space, * 1 d c in each d c of next d c group, 2 popcorn sts with ch 2 between in next loop, repeat from * all around, ending row to correspond, join.

14th Row—Work same as 9th row increasing in each d c section in same manner.

15th Row—Same as 12th row, break thread.

UNDER SECTION—Work in same manner as 1st 11 rows of under section of small mat.

12th, 13th and 14th Rows—Sl st into loop, shell in same space, * 1 d c in each d c of next d c group, 2—2 d c cluster sts with ch 2 between in loop between next 2 clusters sts, 1 d c in each d c of next d c group, shell in next shell, repeat from * all around ending row to correspond, join.

15th Row—Sl st into loop, shell in same space * 2 d c in next d c, 1 d c in each remaining d c of d c group, 2—2 d c cluster sts with ch 2 between in loop between next 2 cluster sts, 1 d c in each of the next 6 d c, 2 d c in next d c, shell in next shell, repeat from * all around ending row to correspond, join, break thread.

With Green, crochet the 2 sections together placing them in same manner as small mat. Attach thread in loop between popcorn sts, ch 4, 11 tr c in same space, * ch 1, skip 3 d c, 1 s c in each of the next 2 d c, ch 1, 12 tr c in loop between next 2 popcorn sts, repeat from * all around ending row to correspond, join. Work remainder of edge same as small mat.
