GENERAL DIRECTIONS FOR FILET CROCHET.
Open Mesh (O M). When worked on a chain work the first d c in 8th ch from hook * ch 2, skip 2 sts, 1 d c in next st, repeat from *. Succeeding rows ch 5 to turn and d c in d c, ch 2, d c in next d c, repeat from *.
Solid Mesh (S M). Four double crochet form 1 solid mesh and 3 d c are required for each additional solid mesh. Open mesh and solid mesh are used in Filet Crochet. To increase one mesh at end of row, ch 2, thread over 3 times, insert in base of last d c made, and work off all loops 2 at a time. To increase a mesh at beginning of row, ch 8 to turn and d c in 1st d c.
To decrease a mesh at beginning of row, sl st back over 1st mesh.

1-150 Yd. Ball will make 1¾ scallops.
Ch 72 and work 1 d c in 4th st from hook, 1 d c in each of the next 8 chs, ch 2, skip 2 chs, 1 d c in each of the next 4 chs, * ch 2, skip 2 chs, 1 d c in next ch, repeat from * twice, ch 2, skip 2 chs, 1 d c in each of the next 4 chs, 11 open meshes, 2 solid meshes, ch 3, turn.
2nd Row. 2 solid meshes, 11 open meshes, 1 s m, 4 o m, 1 s m, 1 o m, 3 s m, ch 8, turn.
3rd Row. 1 d c in 4th st from hook, 1 d c in each of the next 4 chs, 1 d c in each of the next 4 d c, 3 o m, 1 s m, 2 o m, 2 s m, 5 o m, 3 s m, 4 o m, 2 s m, ch 3, turn.
Follow diagram in same manner, working up and down until length desired.
To decrease at beginning of row, sl st over the 2 meshes.
