MATERIALS REQUIRED:

Columbia-Minerva Nantuk 4 ply Knitting Yarn (Knitting Worsted size-2 or 4 oz skein)-36 ounces of Main Color (MC), 4 ounces each of Rose and Pink and 8 ounces of Green

Columbia-Minerva Knitting Worsted (4 oz skein)-9 skeins of Main Color (MC), 1 skein each of Rose and Pink and 2 skeins of Green

Gauge: Each square measures 6 ½ inches

ROSE SQUARE: Leaves - With green ch 6. Row 1-3 dc in 6th ch from hook, ch 5, turn. Row 2-3 dc in center dc, ch 5, turn. Repeat Row 2 until there are 12 loops on each side. Strip should measure 16 inches in length. Break yarn and sew ends tog to form circle. Rose - Row 1-Attach rose yarn to any ch 5 loop at inside edge of circle, *sc in loop, ch 2, repeat from * around, ending join to 1st sc with a sl st, ch 1. Row 2-1 sc in same st, *4 dc in next sc, 1 sc in next sc, repeat from * around, ending 4 dc in last sc, join to 1st sc with a sl st. Row 3-*Work 1 sc around base of sc (by inserting hook around base of st from back of work and drawing up a loop, yo and through the 2 loops), ch 3, repeat from * around, join to first sc with a sl st, draw pink through loop on hook, break rose and fasten. Row 4-With pink work *sc in sc, 3 dc in ch 3 space, repeat from * around, join to 1 st sc with a sl st. Row 5-*Sc around base of sc, ch 1, repeat from * around, join to first sc with a sl st. Break yarn and fasten.

Outer Edge of Square: Row 1-With MC make a loop on hook, work 1 sc in any ch 5 loop at outer edge of green, *ch 3, dc in top of next dc, ch 3, sc in loop, repeat from * around, ending ch 3, sl st in first sc, ch 1. Row 2-Sc in sc, ch 1, sc in space, ch 1, sc in dc, ch 1, sc in space, ch 1, *dc in sc, ch 1, in next dc make (dc, ch 1) 4 times for corner, dc in next sc, (ch 1, sc in loop, ch 1, sc in sc) 3 times, ch 1, sc in loop, ch 1, repeat from * around, sl st to sc at start, break yarn and fasten.

MAIN COLOR SQUARE: With MC work same as for Leaves of Rose Square. Work center as follows: Row 1-Same as Row 1 of Rose. Row 2-*Ch 1, sc in next loop, in next loop work (ch 1, dc) 2 times, repeat from * around, ending ch 1, sl st in sc at start. Row 3-Sl st to ch 1 space between next 2 dc, *sc in space between the 2 dc, ch 3, repeat from * around, sl st to first sc. Row 4-Sl st in loop, then work 2 sc in each loop around, join with a sl st, ch 1. Row 5-1 sc in every other sc, join with a sl st, break yarn and fasten. Work Outer Part of Square same as for Rose Square.

AFGHAN: Make 30 rose squares. Make 53 MC squares.

TO JOIN: Sew squares tog on wrong side of work, following chart below for placement of rose squares.
