Materials Required:

Columbia-Minerva Knitting Worsted (4 oz. skein)
Color 1--White--4 Skeins
Color 2--Black--2 Skeins
Color 3--Gray--5 Skeins
--OR--
Columbia--Minerva Nantuk 4 Ply Knitting Yarn (Knitting Worsted Size--2 or 4 oz. skein)
Color 1--White--16 Oz.
Color 2--Black--8 Oz.
Color 3--Gray--20 Oz.
AND
Columbia-Minerva Camelot--(1 oz. ball)--3 balls Gold

1 "Boye" Aluminum Crochet Hook "G" (Size 5)

Gauge: 1 Motif measures 3 1/2 inches across before joining.

Motif: With Color 1 Ch 5 loosely, join in ring with a slip St.

Row 1--Ch 3, 1 D.C. in ring (draw up D.C. Sts. to 3/4 inch), *Ch 2, 2 D.C. in ring, repeat from * 4 times more (6 groups of 2 D.C.), Ch 2, join to 3rd Ch at start with a slip St. Draw up a long loop and slip ball through, tighten loop. Drop yarn but do not break.

Row 2--Fasten Color 2 to 2nd D.C. of any 2 D.C. group. Working over next Ch 2, make 2 long D.C. in ring (drawing up Sts. to 1 inch), Ch 3, skip the 2 D.C. of previous row, repeat from * 5 times more, join to 1st D.C. with a slip St., break Color 2 strand and fasten.

Row 3--Insert hook into 3rd Ch at start of Row 1, draw Color 1 through to front, Ch 3, 1 D.C. in same St., 2 D.C. in next D.C. of Row 1, *Ch 2, 2 D.C. in each of next 2 D.C. (of Row 1), repeat from * around, ending Ch 2, slip St. to 3rd Ch at start, break yarn and fasten.

Row 4--With wrong side of work facing, fasten Gold Lame in 2nd D.C. of any 4 D.C. group. Work 1 S.C. in this St. and 1 S.C. in next St. (2 center Sts. of 4 D.C. group), *Ch 8, 1 S.C. in 2nd and 3rd D.C. of next group, repeat from * 4 times more, Ch 8, slip St. to S.C. at start of row, break yarn and fasten.

Make 149 Motifs.

Border: (First Motif) On right side of work fasten Color 3 in first S.C. of any 2 Gold Lame Sts., Ch 3, 1 D.C. in same St., Ch 1, 2 D.C, in next St., * Ch 3, working over Gold Lame St., Ch 1, 2 D.C. in next St., repeat from * 4 times more, Ch 3, 1 S.C. in next space, Ch 3, slip St. to 3rd Ch at start, break yarn and fasten.

Joining Motifs: Fasten Color 3 to first S.C. of Gold Lame Sts., Ch 3, 1 D.C. in same St., join to First Motif by S.C. in any Ch 1 space between D.C. group of First Motif, 2 D.C. in next S.C. of Second Motif, Ch 1, S.C. in next Ch 3 space of First Motif, Ch 1, S.C. in space of Second Motif, Ch 1, S.C. in next Ch 3 space of First Motif, Ch 1, 2 D.C. in next S.C., S.C. in Ch 1 space on First Motif, 2 D.C. in next S.C. of Second Motif, continue working Border around as on First Motif. Break yarn and fasten.

Join Third Motif and remaining Motifs in same manner. Where 3 joinings meet, make 3rd joining in same place as previous one. Make 6 rows of 14 Motifs and 5 rows of 13 Motifs alternately (149 Motifs).

Edging:

Row 1--With Color 3, fasten yarn and work 1 S.C. in each D.C. and S.C. and 2 S.C. in each Ch 3 space around entire Afghan, slip St. to first St., break yarn and fasten.

Row 2--Fasten Color 1 and work 1 S.C. in each St. around, break yarn and fasten.

Row 3--With Color 2 work same as Row 2.

Fringe: Wind Color 3 over a 4 inch cardboard. Fold and knot 4 strands about 1/2 inch apart across each end of Afghan.
