Materials Required: AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY The Famous "PURITAN" CROCHET COTTON, Article 40 or "DE LUXE" Quality CROCHET COTTON, Article 346
1 ball White.
1 ball Red or any contrasting color.
Steel crochet hook No. 4.

Potholder is made with a double strand of thread throughout. With Red ch 2, 8 s c in 2nd st from hook, join in 1st s c.
2nd Row. Ch 1 and work 2 s c in each s c (16 s c), cut Red.
3rd Row. Attach White, ch 3 (counts as 1 d c), d c in same space, ** puff st in next s c (puff st: thread over hook, insert in st, pull loop through and up the length of a d c, * thread over hook, insert in same space, pull loop through and up the same length, repeat from * once, thread over and pull through all loops on hook but one, thread over and pull through 2 loops), 2 d c in next s c, repeat from ** all around ending with puff st in last st, join in 3rd st of ch, drop White.
4th Row. Attach Red and work 2 s c in each puff st and 2 s c in each d c (48 s c), join, drop Red.
5th Row. Pick up White and work 1 s c in each of the next 11 s c, ch 1, turn.
Next Row. * Working in back loop of sts only work 1 s c in each of the next 5 s c, 3 s c in next s c, 1 s c in each of the next 5 s c, ch 1, turn.
Next Row. Working through back loop of sts work 1 s c in each s c.
Next Row. Working in back loop of sts 1 s c in each s c working 3 s c in center s c, ch 1, turn.
Next Row. Working in back loop of sts 1 s c in each s c, ch 1, turn. Repeat the last 2 rows twice, sl st down side of pointed sections, 1 s c in each of the next 12 s c of 4th row, ch 1, turn. Repeat from * 3 times but ending last repeat with 1 s c in last s c, join, cut White.
1st Round. Attach Red in s c between points, s c in same space, * 7 s c up side of pointed section, 3 s c in corner, working through both loops work 1 s c in each of the next 8 s c, 3 s c in next s c, 1 s c in each of the next 8 s c, 3 s c in next s c, 7 s c down opposite side of same pointed section, s c in s c between pointed sections, repeat from * all around, join in 1st s c.
2nd Round. Working in back loop of sts for remainder of potholder work 1 s c in each s c, join.
3rd Round. Work 1 s c in each s c increasing in center st at each of the 12 points, join, drop Red. Repeat the last 2 rows having next row White, 1 row Red, 1 row White, 3 rows Red, cut thread.
With White cover a bone ring in s c and sew to potholder.
