Riviera Shawl Pattern

21 x 72 inches

This stole can be made with any of the following:

"DAWN" or "CLOVERLEAF" NYLON
or
"DAWN" DACRON FINGERING YARN
or
"DAWN" NYLON SOCK & SWEATER YARN
or
"DAWN" BABY YARN
12 ozs. Baby Green or color desired.
6 ozs. White.
1—1½ inch hairpin staple.
1—5 inch hairpin staple.
Plastic crochet hook Size F.
Steel crochet hook No. 1.

HAIRPIN LACE: Make a loop at end of yarn and place 1 prong of staple in loop just made, wind yarn around right prong of staple, insert hook in loop, yarn over hook and draw through loop keeping work at center, * drop loop from hook, turn staple ½ turn to the left, pick up the dropped loop at center, yarn over hook and pull through, insert hook through top part of loop on left hand prong, yarn over and pull through (2 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through both loops com­pleting the single crochet, repeat from * for desired length.

WIDE STRIP: With 5 inch staple and size F hook using 1 strand White and 1 strand Baby Green work a length of hairpin lace having it measure 72 inches with­out stretching, cut yarn.
Attach yarn through 1st double loop, * sl st through next double loop, repeat from * across side, cut yarn. Work opposite side of hairpin lace in same manner.
Work 4 more strips in same manner having the same number of loops on each side of staple as in 1st strip. Sew strips together.

NARROW STRIP: With single strand of Green and No. 1 hook using 1½ inch staple, work a length of hairpin lace same length as wide strips.
Work 10 more narrow strips in same manner.
Sew a narrow strip to joining of each wide strip and in center of each wide strip. Sew a narrow strip to each long side of stole.
Work 2 more narrow strips of hairpin lace to fit across each end. Sew in position as illustrated.
