Materials Required—
AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY "STAR" PEARL COTTON, SIZE 5
13 60-yd. Balls Yellow.
2 60-yd. Balls Blue and a few yards of Red for tongue.
Kapok or Cotton for Filling.
Steel Crochet Hook No. 5 for double strand and 8 for single strand.

BODY. Using two strands of Yellow, ch 32 and work 30 s d c on ch, ch 2 to turn each row. (S d c: thread over needle, insert in st, pull loop through, thread over and pull through all loops at one time).
2nd Row—1 s d c in each s d c.
3rd Row—1 s d c in each s d c with 2 s d c in last s d c.
4th Row—1 s d c in each s d c, repeat 3rd and 4th rows twice, then repeat 3rd row once.
10th Row—1 s d c in each s d c, ch 1, break thread.
FRONT LEG. Ch 20 and work 18 s d c on ch.
2nd Row—1 s d c in each s d c.
3rd Row—Decrease 1 s d c at beginning of row and work 1 s d c in each remaining s d c.
4th Row—1 s d c in each s d c, repeat 3rd and 4th rows once.
7th Row—Decrease 1 s d c at beginning of row, 1 s d c in each remaining s d c with 2 s d c in last s d c. Repeat 4th row once, then repeat 7th row.
10th Row—Increase 1 s d c at beginning of row, 1 s d c in each remaining s d c.
11th Row—1 s d c in each s d c, join to body by working 1 s d c in the ch 1 of 10th row and 1 s d c in each s d c with 2 s d c in last s d c.
12th, 13th and 14th Rows—1 s d c in each s d c.
15th to 22nd Rows—Decrease 1 s d c at beginning of each row.
23rd Row—Decrease 1 s d c at beginning and 2 sts at end of row.
24th Row—Decrease 2 s d c at beginning of row.
25th Row—Decrease 1 s d c at beginning and 2 sts at end of row. Repeat 24th and 25th rows once.
28th Row—Decrease 2 s d c at beginning and increase 1 st at end of row.
29th Row—Decrease 1 s d c at end of row.
30th Row—Decrease 1 s d c at end of row, then work 1 row even.
32nd Row—1 s d c in each of first 15 s d c, 1 s c in each remaining s d c increasing 1 s c in last s d c.
33rd Row—1 s c in each s c and 1 s d c in each s d c. Repeat 33rd row once, break thread.
BODY UNDER SECTION. Ch 32, work 30 s d c on ch.
2nd & 3rd Rows—1 s d c in each s d c.
4th Row—Decrease 1 s d c at beginning of row.
5th Row—Decrease 2 s d c at end of row and repeat 4th and 5th rows twice.
10th Row—1 s d c in each s d c, ch 1, break thread.
FRONT LEG UNDER SECTION. Work 1st 10 rows of front leg.
11th Row—1 s d c in each s d c, join to ch 1 of body and continue across row decreasing 2 s d c at end of row.
12th Row—Decrease 2 s d c at beginning and 1 s d c at end of row.
13th to 23rd Rows—Decrease 1 s d c at beginning and end of each row.
24th to 28th Rows—Decrease 1 st at beginning of each row.
29th to 32nd Rows—Work even, break thread. Work another body and under section.
BACK OF HEAD. Ch 20, 2 s d c in 3rd st from hook, 1 s d c in each of next 16 sts, 2 s d c in last st.
2nd Row—2 s d c in 1st s d c, work even across row increasing 1 s d c in last s d c.
3rd Row—Increase 4 sts in this row, 2 sts at beginning of row and 2 sts at end of row, then work 3 more rows same as 3rd row.
7th to 11th Rows—Work even.
12th, 13th & 14th Rows—Decrease 1 s d c at beginning and end of each row.
15th to 21st Rows—Work even.
22nd Row—Increase 1 st at beginning and end of row.
23rd & 24th Rows—Work even.
25th, 26th, 27th Rows—Decrease 1 s d c at beginning and end of row, break thread.
FACE. Ch 14, 1 s d c in 3rd st from hook, 1 s d c in each of the next 9 sts, 2 s d c in each of the last 2 sts.
2nd Row—2 s d c in each of 1st 2 s d c, 1 s d c in each remaining st.
3rd Row—1 s d c in each s d c, with 2 s d c in each of last 2 s d c.
4th Row—Same as 2nd row.
5th, 6th, 7th & 8th Rows—Increase one s d c at end of each row.
9th to 15th Rows—Work even.
16th to 20th Rows—Decrease one s d c at beginning of each row.
21st & 22nd Rows—Work even.
23rd & 24th Rows—Work same as 16th row.
25th, 26th & 27th Rows—Decrease 1 s d c at beginning and end of each row, break thread.
OPPOSITE SIDE OF FACE. Ch 14, 2 s d c in 3rd st from hook, 2 s d c in next st, 1 s d c in each remaining st.
2nd Row—1 s d c in each s d c with 2 s d c in each of last 2 s d c.
3rd Row—2 s d c in each of 1st 2 s d c, 1 s d c in each remaining s d c.
4th Row—Same as 2nd row.
5th, 6th, 7th & 8th Rows—Increase 1 s d c at beginning of each row.
9th to 15th Rows—Work even.
16th to 20th Rows—Decrease 1 s d c at end of each row.
21st & 22nd Rows—Work even.
23rd & 24th Rows—Decrease 1 s d c at end of each row.
25th, 26th & 27th Rows—Decrease 1 s d c at beginning and end of each row, break thread.
EARS. With Blue, and using single thread, ch 43 and work 40 d c on ch. (Ch 3 to turn each row.)
2nd to 7th Rows—Decrease 1 d c at beginning of each row.
8th to 16th Rows—Decrease 1 d c at beginning and end of each row.
17th & 18th Rows—Decrease 2 d c at beginning and end of each row.
19th & 20th Rows—Decrease 1 d c at beginning and end of each row.
21st Row—Decrease 1 st at beginning and end of row, then work a row of s c all around ear.
TAIL. Ch 14, work 12 d c on ch. (Ch 3 to turn.)
2nd to 6th Rows—1 d c in each d c.
7th Row—1 d c in each d c, increasing 1 d c in last d c.
8th Row—Increase 1 d c in first d c and decrease last d c.
9th Row—Decrease 1 st at beginning of row and increase 1 at end of row. Then repeat 8th and 9th rows once.
12th Row—Increase 1 st at beginning of row, decrease 2 sts at end of row, break thread.
Work another tail section in same manner.
EYES. With Blue, ch 5, join to form a ring, ch 3, work 15 d c in ring, join to ch 3.
2nd Row—Ch 1 and work 1 s c in each d c, break thread.
NOSE. With Blue, ch 5, join to form a ring, ch 3, 8 d c in ring, ch 3, turn.
2nd Row—2 d c in same space with the ch 3, 2 d c in each of the next 7 d c, 3 d c in 3rd st of ch 3, work 5 s c down the side of the 2 rows, 3 d c over the ch of ring and 5 s c up other side, break thread.
TONGUE. With Red, ch 8, work 5 d c on ch, ch 3, turn.
2nd Row—2 d c in 1st d c, 1 d c in each of next 3 d c, 2 d c in last d c, ch 3, turn.
3rd Row—2 d c in 1st st, 1 d c in each d c with 2 d c in last d c, then work 1 row of s c all around tongue, break thread.
COLLAR. With Blue, ch 9, work a 2 d c shell in 3rd st from hook, skip 2 sts, s c in next st, ch 3, work 2 d c in same space, skip 2 sts, s c in next st, * ch 3, turn and work 2 d c in same space with ch 3, s c over 3 ch loop of shell, ch 3, 2 d c in same space, s c over 3 ch loop of next shell, repeat from * until collar is desired length, break thread.
LEASH. With Blue, ch 5, join to form a ring, work 1 s c in each st of ch. Without joining rows and working in back loop of st only, work 1 s c in each s c until leash is desired length.
TO ASSEMBLE DOG. Match rows of body and starting at top, sew down back to lower edge. Match under sections and sew from top to lower edge, lay under sections on body matching the front legs and hind part. Sew across bottom of front leg, up one side of leg and down opposite side, around hind part, up one side and down side of leg and across bottom of leg. Sew both legs and fill with Cotton batting or Kapok.
Match the 2 face sections and sew them to back of head. Sew face half way down, sew neck to neck of body, fill head and sew remainder of face. With Blue, work a running st down front of face and both front legs. Attach ears, eyes, nose, and tongue as illustrated. With Yellow make a French knot in center of each eye. Sew collar around neck and attach leash to collar.
