AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY "STAR" MERCERIZED CROCHET COTTON
7 300-yd. Balls, Size 20, White.
1 yd. Linen for 4 Round Doilies and 4 Napkins.
Steel Crochet Hook No. 10.

Round Doily measures 13¾ inches, the Napkins 11½ inches completed.

ROUND DOILY. Cut a linen circle 10 inches in diameter and make a very narrow hem.
RUFFLE. Over hem work a row of s c all around, join.
2nd Row—Ch 5, d c in next s c, * ch 2, d c in next s c, repeat from * all around, join each row in 3rd st of ch 5.
3rd to 7th Rows—Ch 5, d c in next d c, * ch 2, d c in next d c, repeat from * all around.
8th and 9th Rows—Ch 6, d c in next d c, * ch 3, d c in next d c, repeat from * all around increasing if necessary for a multiple of 5 meshes.
EDGE. Sl st into mesh, ch 3, 2 d c in same mesh, * ch 3, skip 1 mesh, 3 d c in next mesh, repeat from * all around, ch 3, join.
2nd Row—Sl st into mesh, ch 4, tr c in same space, ch 4, sl st in top of tr c for picot, * ch 2, 2 tr c, picot, in same space, repeat from * twice, ** ch 4, skip 3 d c, s c in next mesh, ch 4, skip 3 d c, 2 tr c in next mesh, picot, * ch 2, 2 tr c in same space, picot, repeat from * twice, repeat from ** all around, join, break thread.
NAPKIN. Cut linen 10½ inches square, make a very narrow hem. Over hem work a row of s c all around.
2nd Row—Ch 4, d c in next s c, * ch 1, d c in next s c, repeat from * all around, join in 3rd st of ch 4.
3rd Row—Ch 5, d c in next d c, * ch 1, d c in next d c, ch 2, d c in next d c, repeat from * all around, ch 1, join.
4th and 5th Rows—Same as 3rd row alternating the meshes having the ch 1 mesh over the ch 2 mesh. Increase in the last row if necessary for a multiple of 5 meshes.
EDGE. Sl st into mesh, s c in same space, * ch 4, skip 1 mesh, s c in next mesh, ch 4, sl st in top of s c for picot, ch 4, skip 1 mesh, s c in next mesh, repeat from * all around, join, break thread.
