Size 57" x 70" without Fringe

Materials Required--AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY "DAWN" KNITTING WORSTED, ARTICLE W1139--1 1/4 oz. Skeins National Blue.
13--1 1/4 oz. Skeins Medium Blue.
14--1 1/4 oz. Skeins Light Blue.
2--1 1/4 oz. Skeins Green.
2--1 1/4 oz. Skeins Amber.
Bone or Plastic Hook No. 9--Afghan Hook Size G.
Gauge--5 Afghan sts=1 inch. 7 rows=2 inches.

Afghan St. Ch for desired length, pick up each st of ch leaving all loops on needle, work back by drawing yarn through first loop, * yarn over needle and draw through 2 loops, repeat from * to end of row.

2nd Row: Same as 1st row picking up the vertical yarn instead of ch, then work back in same manner.

Repeat 2nd row for length desired.

Afghan Stripe. With National Blue and size G hook, ch 36 and work 35 Afghan sts on ch. Work 203 more rows of Afghan sts, then work 1 row of sl sts picking up the vertical yarn same as in Afghan st. Work a row of sc on each long side working 1 sc in each row. Work 3 more stripes in same manner. Embroider all 4 stripes according to diagram.

Attach Medium Blue in 1st sc on long side, ch 3 and work popcorn st in same space (Popcorn st: 4 dc in same space, drop loop from hook, insert needle in top of 1st dc and pull loop through ch 1) * 1 dc in each of the next 3 sc, popcorn st in next sc, repeat from * across row, break yarn.

Attach Lt. Blue in 3rd st of ch at opposite end, ch 3, dc in top of popcorn st, 1 dc in next st, * popcorn st in next st, 1 dc in each of the next 3 sts, repeat from * across row, break yarn.

3rd Row: Attach Lt. Blue and work same as last row but working popcorn sts in center dc between popcorn sts of previous row, break yarn.

4th Row: Attach Medium Blue and work same as last row, break yarn.

5th Row: Attach National Blue and work same as last row, break yarn.

Work on other long side of same stripe in same manner. Work 1 more stripe same as 1st stripe and sew together. These are the 2 center stripes.

Work 5 rows of popcorn sts using same color combination on right side only of one stripe and sew to center stripe. Work 5 rows of popcorn sts in same manner on left hand side of last stripe and sew to opposite side of center stripe.

BORDER. With National Blue, work a row of sc across each short end.

Work 5 rows of popcorn sts using same color combination around entire Afghan working 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc in each corner in each row.

Attach National Blue at corner and working on long side, sc in same space, * 2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc in next popcorn st, sc in center dc between popcorn sts, repeat from * across long side ending with sc in corner st, working across short end, * ch 1, skip 1 st, sc in next st, repeat from * across short end. Work other sides to correspond.

FRINGE. With National Blue, cut strands 17 inches long. Using 3 strands, double in half and pull through each ch 1 loop, draw end through loop, repeat across each short end.
