Little Girl's Breton Hat Pattern

Flattery for the younger set ... this little girl's sailor is easy to crochet in simple single crochet.

Directions are given for Small Size. Changes for Medium and Large Sizes are in parentheses.

COATS & CLARK'S "RED HEART" KNITTING WORSTED, 4 Ply ("Tangle-Proof" Pull-Out Skeins): 4 ozs. of No. 1 White.

Milwards Steel Crochet Hook No. 2/0 (double zero).

1 yard of ribbon, 1 inch wide.

GAUGE: 5 sts = 1 inch; 5 rnds = 1 inch.

CROWN ... Starting at center, ch 2. 1st rnd: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. NOTE: Do not join but mark last sc of each rnd. 2nd rnd: 2 sc in each sc around (6 sc increased). 3rd rnd: * 2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc. Repeat from * around. 4th rnd: Sc in each sc around increasing 6 sc evenly spaced, making increases directly over previous increases. Repeat 4th rnd until there are 84 (96, 108) sts on rnd and crown meas­ures about 5¾ (6½, 7) inches in diam­eter. Work even in sc rnds for 2½ (3, 3½) inches. Join last sc with sl st to next sc. Ch 1, turn.

BRIM ... 1st rnd: * Sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc. Repeat from * around. 2nd rnd: Sc in each sc around. 3rd rnd: Sc in each sc around increasing 18 (20, 22) sc evenly spaced. Repeat 2nd rnd until Brim meas­ures 1½ (2, 2½) inches. Turn. Next rnd: Sl st in each sc around. Break off and fasten. Trim with ribbon.
