Columbia-Minerva Nantuk 4 ply Knitting Yarn (Knitting Worsted size-2 or 4 oz skein)-20 ounces Main Color (MC), 12 ounces each of Colors 1 and 3 and 8 ounces each of Colors 2 and 4 OR Knitting Worsted (4 oz skein)-5 skeins Main Color, 3 skeins each of Colors 1 and 3 and 2 skeins each of Colors 2 and 4

Crochet Chart

Gauge: Each square measures 7 ¾ inches

SQUARE A: (Four motifs make a square) - First Half of Motif - With Color 1 ch 20. Row 1-1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, *skip 2 ch, 5 dc in next ch (shell), skip 2 ch, sc in next ch, repeat from * 2 times more, ch 1, turn. Row 2-Sl st in each of next 2 dc, *sc in center st of shell, 5 dc shell in next sc, repeat from * once more, sl st in center st of next shell, ch 1, turn. Row 3-Sl st in each of next 2 dc, sc in center st of shell, 1 dc, 5 trc, 1 dc in next sc, sl st in center st of shell, break yarn and fasten.

Second Half of Motif: Working along opposite side of foundation ch, with MC make a loop on hook, work 1 sc in same ch as sc of Row 1, 1 shell in same ch as shell, until first row is completed. Work Rows 2 and 3 same as first half of motif. Break yarn and fasten. Make 3 more motifs, then sew tog following Chart No. 1, placing first and second halves as indicated by numbers 1 and 2. Make 11 more squares.

SQUARE B: Make 12 squares, using Color 2 for first half of motifs and Color 3 for second half.

SQUARE C: Make 12 squares, using Color 4 for first half of motifs and MC for second half.

SQUARE D: Make 12 squares, using Color 1 for first half of motifs and Color 3 for second half.

Sew squares tog, following Chart No. 2.

BORDER: With Color 3 work a row of sc around entire Afghan, skipping sts if necessary to keep border flat, working 3 sc in each corner. Join to first st, break yarn and fasten. Row 2-With Color 1 work 1 sc in back loop of each st, working 3 sc in each corner. Join to first st, break yarn and fasten. Row 3-With MC work 1 dc in back loop of each st, working 5 dc with ch 1 between in each corner. Row 4-With Color 2 work same as Row 2. Break yarn and fasten.
