Materials: J. & P. Coats Knit-Cro-Sheen, 3 balls, Ecru or White.
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 6.

When completed, chair back measures about 13 x 17 inches, and each arm piece about 8 x 12 inches.

Chair Back. Ch 200 to measure about 18 inches, turn. 1st row: S c in 14th ch from hook, s c in each of next 4 ch, * ch 5, skip 5 ch sts of foundation ch, tr in next ch, ch 5, skip next 5 ch, s c in each of next 5 ch. Repeat from * across, ending row with ch 5, skip 5 ch, tr in last ch. Ch 9, turn. 2nd row: * S c in each of next 5 s c, ch 5, tr in next tr, ch 5. Repeat from * across, ending row with ch 5, tr in 5th ch of turning ch. Ch 1, turn. 3rd row: * S c in tr, 6 s c in loop, s c in each of next 5-s c of group, 6 s c in next loop. Repeat from * across, ending row with 5 s c in last loop, s c in 5th ch of turning ch. Ch 1, turn. 4th row: S c in each of first 2 s c, * ch 5, skip 6 s c, tr in next s c (center s c of 5-s c group), ch 5, skip 6 s c, s c in each of next 5 s c (these 5 s c come directly over tr below). Repeat from * across, ending row with ch 5, s c in each of last 2 s c. Ch 1, turn. 5th row: S c in each of next 2 s c, * ch 5, tr in next tr, ch 5, s c in each of next 5 s c, repeat from * across, ending row with ch 5, s c in each of last 2 s c. Ch 1, turn. 6th row: S c in each of first 2 s c, * 6 s c in loop, s c in next tr, 6 s c in loop, s c in each of 5 s c. Repeat from * across, ending row with s c in each of last 2 s c. Ch 9, turn. 7th row: * Skip 6 s c, s c in each of next 5 s c, ch 5, skip 6 s c, tr in next s c (center s c of 5-s c group), ch 5. Repeat from * across, ending row with ch 5, tr in last s c. Ch 9, turn. The last 6 rows constitute the pattern. Repeat the last 6 rows until work measures about 12 inches, ending with the 5th row. Do not break off.

To Finish Edges: S c closely along side, making a ch 5 p after every 8th s c, making a p in corner. Continue with s c along foundation ch, making 3 ch-5 p's separated by 3 s c over each scallop, and making s c in each s c across. Work the other two sides to correspond.

Arm Pieces. Ch 104 to measure about 9 inches, and work as for chair back.
