Ducklings Potholder Pattern

MATERIALS:
J. & P. Coats Knit-Cro-Sheen, 1 ball of color A and 1 ball of color B. This amount is sufficient for 2 pot holders if colors are reversed for 2nd pot holder.
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 6.

Gauge: 10 d c make 1 inch; 4 rows make 1 inch.

Front … Starting at bottom, with color A ch 68 to measure 7 inches. 1st row: D c in 4th ch from hook, d c in each ch across (66 d c, counting turning ch as 1 d c). Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: D c in each d c across. Ch 3, turn. 3rd row: D c in each of 52 dc (53 dc with turning ch-3), thread over, insert hook in next d c, draw loop through, thread over and draw through 2 loops; drop color A, attach color B and draw through remaining 2 loops. Holding color A along top of row, and working over it with color B in order to conceal it, make d c in each of 6 d c, leaving the last 2 loops of 6th d c on hook; drop color B, pick up color A and draw through remaining 2 loops; with color A make d c in remaining 5 d c and in turning ch, concealing unused color as before. Ch 3, turn. 4th row: Make 2 d c with color A, 9 with color B, 18 color A, 6 color B, 30 color A. Ch 3, turn. Now follow chart to complete design. Fasten off.

Back … Work 1st 2 rows exactly as for Front. Re­peat 2nd row 23 more times. Fasten off. Make a pad (see patternbook page). Place pad between Front and Back and, starting at 1 corner, work a row of s c all around through both thicknesses. Do not break off but ch 40, turn. Work s c in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, sl st in 1st s c made. Fasten off.
