COATS & CLARK'S O.N.T. "SPEED-CRO-SHEEN" MERCERIZED COTTON, Art. C.44: 3 balls of No. 126 Spanish Red and a few yards each of No. 43 Dk. Yellow, No. 49-A Killarney and No. 1 White; and
J. & P. COATS "KNIT-CRO-SHEEN" METALLIC, Art. A.64: 1 ball of No. M.10-A Canary Yellow.
Milwards Steel Crochet Hook No. 2/0 (double zero).
8 bone rings, ¾ inch in diameter.

GAUGE: 6 sc make 1 inch; 6 rows make 1 inch.

Directions are given for Small Size. Changes for Medium and Large Sizes are in parentheses.

SOLE … Starting at center with Spanish Red, chain loosely 33 (36-39) sts. 1st rnd: 5 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 15 ch, dc in next 15 (18-21) ch, 7 dc in last ch (toe end); working along opposite side of starting chain, make dc in next 15 (18-21) ch, sc in each remaining ch. Join with sl st. 2nd to 8th rnds incl: Sc in each st around, increasing 3 sc evenly around heel and 5 sc evenly around toe end—to inc 1 sc, make 2 sc in 1 sc. At end of 8th rnd, sl st in each sc around. Join and break off. Make another piece the same way. Sew top sole to bottom sole.

STRAP (Make 2) … With one strand each of Dk. Yellow "Speed-Cro-Sheen" and Canary Yellow Metallic make a chain 28 inches long. 1st row: Sl st in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Break off. 2nd row: Attach one strand each of Killarney and Yellow Metallic where first sl st was made and, picking up back loop only, sl st in each sl st across. Break off Killarney. Turn. Working with Yellow Metallic and another color work as follows: Make 1 row each of Red, White, Red, Killarney and Dk. Yel­low. Break off. Tie loose threads at ends of rows and trim ends. With Red, sc closely over bone rings. Sew Straps and bone rings to Sole as illustrated and slip Straps through rings. Make another slipper the same way.
