Mary Christmas

Materials Required: AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY
DAWN” KNITTING WORSTED
2 ozs. each Scarlet and White and
STAR” SIX STRAND EMBROIDERY COTTON, Article 50
1 skein each Light Emerald and Bright Red
Plastic crochet hook No. G-same as size 5
11 inch doll

BODICE-With Scarlet ch 12, sc in 2nd st from hook, 1 sc in each remaining st of ch, ch 1 to turn this and following rows.

Next 3 Rows-1 sc in each sc.

5th Row-1 sc in each of the 1st 5 sts.

6th and 7th Rows-1 sc in each sc, ch 7 to turn last row.

8th Row-1 sc in 2nd st from hook, 1 sc in each remaining st of ch, 1 sc in each sc, ch 1 to turn this and following rows.

Next 8 Rows-1 sc in each sc. Repeat the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th rows once.

21st to 23rd Rows-1 sc in each sc, cut yarn at end of last row. Sew shoulder seams.

SLEEVE-Attach Scarlet in 1st free row at underarm, sc in same space, 1 sc in each of the next 2 rows, 1 sc in each of the next 2 sts, 1 dc in next st, 2 dc in each st to joining, 2 dc in joining, 2 dc in each of the next 3 sts, 1 dc in next st, 1 sc in each of the next 2 sts, join and turn each round.

Next 4 Rounds-Ch 1 and work 1 sc in each sc and 1 dc in each dc.

6th Round-* Insert hook in next st, pull loop through, repeat from * once, yarn over and work off all loops at one time (a decrease), repeat from 1st * all around, sc in last st. Work 5 rounds even in sc, cut yarn. Work another sleeve in same manner. With right side of work toward you attach Scarlet in 1st row at lower edge, ch 3 * 2 dc in next row, repeat from * across lower edge, cut yarn, do not turn.

TRIM-Attach White in 1st st, ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 3 dc in same space, slip loop off hook, insert in 1st st, pull loop through, ch 1 to tighten st, * dc in next st, popcorn st in next st (popcorn st: 4 dc in same space, slip loop off hook, insert in 1st dc, pull loop through, ch 1 to tighten st), repeat from * across row, working around front edge, dc on side of dc of previous row, popcorn st in same dc, * dc in next st, popcorn st in next st, repeat from * all around in same manner ending row to correspond. Sew a hook and eye at waistline.

SKIRT-With Scarlet ch 19 (about 4 ½ inches), sc in 2nd st from hook, 1 sc in each remaining st of ch, ch 3 to turn all rows.

2nd Row-Working in dc, increase 2 dc evenly spaced.

3rd and 4th Rows-Increase 5 sts, join this and following rounds.

Next 8 Rounds-Increase 4 sts in each round, cut yarn.

13th Round-Attach White, ch 3, popcorn st in next dc, * dc in next dc, popcorn st in next dc, repeat from * all around, join, cut yarn.

14th Round-Attach Scarlet in popcorn st, ch 3, dc in same space * 1 dc in next dc, 2 dc in next popcorn st, repeat from * all around, join, cut yarn.

15th Round-Same as 13th round, cut yarn. Sew 2 hooks and eyes at back opening.

BIB-With right side of 1st row toward you and working on opposite side of starting ch, attach Scarlet in 7th st, ch 3, 1 dc in each of the next 5 sts, ch 3, turn.

2nd Row-Dc in same space, 1 dc in each of the next 4 dc, 2 dc in next dc, ch 3, turn.

3rd Row-1 dc in each dc, crochet a chain about 7 ½ inches long for tie, cut yarn. Crochet a chain the same length, attach to opposite side of top of bib, cut yarn.

HAT-With White ch 4, 9 dc in 4th st from hook, join, ch 3, turn.

2nd Round-2 dc in same space, 2 dc in each dc, join, turn.

3rd Round-Ch 3, popcorn st in same space (ch 3 counts as part of 1st popcorn st), * skip 1 dc, 1 popcorn st in each of the next 2 dc, repeat from * 5 times, skip 1 dc, popcorn st in next dc, join in 1st popcorn st, do not turn.

4th Round-Work a popcorn st over each popcorn st, join, then crochet a chain long enough to fit around back of head, sl st at opposite side, cut yarn. With Red “STAR” SIX STRAND EMBROIDERY COTTON embroider 3 French knots as illustrated. With Green embroider 3 lazy daisy sts between French knots as illustrated.

MUFF-With White ch 8, join to form a ring, ch 1 and work 1 sc in each st, join in 1st sc.

2nd Round-Work 1 popcorn st in each sc, join.

Next 2 Rounds-Work 1 popcorn st in each popcorn st, join each round.

Next Round-Ch 1 and work 1 sc in each popcorn st, join, ch 8, sl st in joining, cut yarn. Embroider muff same as hat.
