Santa Claus Doll
Materials Required: AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY “DAWN” KNITTING WORSTED
3 ozs. Scarlet
1 oz. each Black and White
Plastic crochet hook No. G same as size 5 and steel crochet hook No.1
11 inch White Hair Doll
4 Snap Fasteners
Kapok for filling
Suit and hat are worked with hook No. G
Boots are worked with hook No. 1
Jacket-With Scarlet ch 46, dc in 4th st from hook, 1 dc in each remaining st of ch, turn each row.
2nd Row-Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in each of the next 10 dc, decrease in next 2 sts (to decrease: * yarn over hook, insert in next st, pull loop through, yarn over and work off 2 loops, repeat from * once, yarn over and work off all loops at one time), 1 dc in each of the next 18 dc, decrease in next 2 sts, 1 dc in each of the last 11 sts.
3rd Row-Ch 3, 1 dc in each of the next 10 dc, decrease in next 2 sts, 1 dc in each of the next 16 dc, decrease in next 2 sts, 1 dc in each remaining st. Work 2 rows even.
6th Row-Ch 3, 1 dc in each of the next 8 dc, turn.
7th and 8th Rows-Ch 3, 1 dc in each of the next 8 dc.
9th Row-Ch 3, 1 dc in each of the next 4 dc, cut yarn. With wrong side of 6th row toward you, attach yarn in 23rd free st, ch 3 and work opposite side to correspond.
Back-Attach yarn in 4th free st of 6th row, ch 3, 1 dc in each of the next 15 dc, ch 3, turn. Work 2 rows even.
Next Row-Ch 3, 1 dc in each of the next 4 dc, ch 2, sl st in each of the next 6 dc, ch 2, 1 dc in each of the next 5 sts, cut yarn. Sew shoulders. Attach Scarlet at shoulder seam and work a row of sc all around opening, working 3 sc in each corner st, having an even number of sc between corners, join, cut yarn.
Sleeves-Attach Scarlet in 1st free st at underarm, * insert hook in next st, pull loop through, repeat from * once, yarn over and work off all loops at one time, 2 sc over dc of next row, 2 dc over side of next 6 rows, 2 sc over next row, join each row, ch 1 to turn each row.
Next Row-Work 1 sc in each sc and 1 dc in each dc, decreasing 3 dc.
Next Row-Work 1 sc in each sc and 1 dc in each dc, decreasing 2 dc.
Next Row-Work 1 sc in each sc and 1 dc in each dc, ch 3 at end of last row.
Next 2 Rows-Work 1 dc in each st, cut yarn at end of last row.
Trim-Attach White in center st on right hand corner of front at neck edge, ch 3, (counts as part of 1st popcorn st) 3 dc in same space, slip loop off hook, insert in 3rd st of ch, pull loop through, ch 1 to tighten st, * ch 1, skip 1 sc, popcorn st in next st (popcorn st: 4 dc in same space, slip loop off hook, insert in 1st dc, pull loop through, ch 1 to tighten st), repeat from * to sc before corner st, popcorn st in corner st, popcorn st in next st, * ch 1, skip 1 sc, popcorn st in next sc, repeat from * to next corner, cut yarn.
Collar-With wrong side of work toward you, attach White in 1st free st at right hand corner, work in popcorn st across row in same manner to about ¼ inch from opposite corner, cut yarn.
Cuffs-Attach White at sleeve edge, work a popcorn st in same space, * skip 1 dc, popcorn st in next dc, repeat from * 4 times, join, cut yarn.
BELT-With Black ch 3, sc in 2nd st from hook, 1 sc in next st of ch, ch 1, turn.
2nd Row-l sc in each sc, ch 1, turn. Repeat 2nd row until belt measures 13 inches or desired length, cut yarn.
BUCKLE-With White ch 14, join to form a ring and work 1 sl st in each st of ch, join, cut yarn leaving a length. Thread into needle and sew to opposite side to form a slide for belt. Place buckle on belt.
HAT-With White ch 34, join being careful not to twist ch, ch 3 and work a popcorn st in same space, * ch 1, skip 1 st, popcorn st in next st, repeat from * 15 times, ch 1, join in 1st popcorn st, cut yarn.
2nd Round-Attach Scarlet in same space, sc in same space, 1 sc in each remaining st (34 sc), join each round and ch 3 to turn each round.
Next 4 Rounds-Working in dc, decrease 4 sts evenly spaced.
7th Round-Work even in dc.
8th Round-Working in dc, decrease 4 sts evenly spaced. Repeat the last 2 rounds twice.
13th Round-Decrease 2 sts, cut yarn.
