SKIRT-Waistband-With Red, ch 36 (about 3 ¼ inches), 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in each remaining ch (35 sc). Row 2-Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each sc across. Rnd 1 (right side)-Ch 6, turn, 1 tr in 3rd sc, * ch 2, skip next sc, 1 tr in next sc; rpt from STAR around; to join Skirt, ch 2, slip st in 4th ch of ch-6. Rnd 2-Ch 6, skip joined st, 1 tr in next sp, ch 2, * 1 tr in next tr, ch 2, 1 tr in next sp, ch 2; rpt from STAR around, join with slip st in 4th ch of ch-6; 36 sps. Rnd 3-Ch 6, skip joined st, 1 tr in next tr, ch 2, [1 tr and ch 2] in each remaining tr, join. Rnd 4-Rpt rnd 2 (72 sps). Rpt rnd 3 eight times. Fasten off.

FIRST RUFFLE-With Red, make a loop on hook, starting at center back, from right side, work 1 sc in first free sc (between tr) of row 2 of Skirt, † * draw up loop on hook about ¼ inch, yo, draw thru loop on hook, insert hook between vertical bar and long loop and draw up a loop, yo, thru both loops on hook; rpt from STAR once (Knot-st made), 1 sc in next free sc (between tr) of row 2; rpt from DAGGER around, end with Knot-st; to join, slip st in first sc. Rnd 2-Ch 3, drop loop from hook, insert hook in center st of first Knot-st Loop and draw dropped loop thru, ch 1, 1 sc in same st, * work a Knot-st, 1 sc in center st of next Knot-st Loop; rpt from STAR around, end with Knot-st, join as rnd 1. Rpt rnd 2. Fasten off. 2ND RUFFLE-With Red, starting at center back, from right side, work 1 sc in ch-2 sp (between tr) of rnd 2 of Skirt, * work a Knot-st, 1 sc in next ch-2 sp (between tr) of rnd 2; rpt from STAR around, end with Knot-st, join as before. Rpt rnd 2 of First Ruffle twice. Fasten off. Work as for 2nd Ruffle on every 2nd tr rnd of Skirt and in last rnd of Skirt.

BODICE-With Black, working on other side of foundation ch of Waistband, work 1 dc in first st, [ch 1 and 1 dc] in each of next 32 sts (32 sps). Row 2-Ch 4, turn, skip first sp, 1 dc in next sp, [ch 1, and 1 dc] in each remaining sp. Rpt. row 2 twice (29 sps in row 4). Fasten off. Shoulder Strap-Turn, skip first 3 dc, with Black, work 1 dc in next dc, [ch 1 and 1 dc] in each of next 2 dc (2 sps). Row 2-Ch 4, turn, 1 dc in 2nd dc, ch 1, 1 dc in next dc. Row 3-Ch 4, turn, 1 dc in 2nd dc, ch 1, 1 dc in 3rd ch of ch-4. Rpt row 3 three times. Fasten off leaving 7 inches of thread to sew, skip 4 sps for underarm and sew end of Strap to next 2 sps at front Bodice. Work other Shoulder Strap to correspond. With Black, work a row of sc all around neck edge (about 1 sc in each sp), fasten off.

SLEEVES-With Black, work [1 dc and ch 1] in each of 4 sps at underarm, [1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc, ch 1] in each of 6 sps of Shoulder Strap, join in first dc. Rnd 2-Ch 1, slip st in first sp, ch 4, 1 dc in next sp, ch 1, [1 dc and ch 1] in each remaining sp, join in 3rd ch of ch-4. Rnd 3-Ch 1, slip st in first sp, ch 3, skip next sp, * 1 dc in next sp, skip next sp; rpt from STAR around, join in top of ch-3. Rnd 4-Ch 1, 1 sc in each dc around, join in first sc, fasten off. Sew spangles and beads around neck edge as shown on page 9.

FAN-With Black, ch 13, slip st in 2nd ch from hook, slip st in each of next 2 chs, 1 sc in each of next 2 chs, 1 hdc in each of next 2 chs, 1 dc in each of next 3 chs, 1 tr in each of next 2 chs. Row 2-Ch 4, turn, 1 tr in 2nd tr, 1 dc in each of next 3 dc, 1 hdc in each of next 2 hdc, 1 sc in each of next, 2 sc, slip st in each of next 3 slip sts. Row 3-Ch 1, turn, slip st in each of 3 slip sts, 1 sc in each of next 2 sc, 1 hdc in each of next 2 hdc, 1 dc in each of next 3 dc, 1 tr in next tr, 1 tr in top ch of ch-4. Rpt. rows 2 and 3 alternately twice. Fasten off. Sew spangles and beads along top edge of Fan. Cement Fan in right hand as shown. To dress Doll, see page 15. Make a necklace and Cross of beads as shown. Arrange Mantilla also small artificial flowers in hair as shown.
