MATERIALS - D•M•C Pearl Cotton, Art. 116D, Size 8: 2 balls Blue No. 797 or 798.
D•M•C Six Strand Cotton: 1 skein Yellow No. 742.
7 or 8-inch Doll.
Steel Crochet Hook, Size 8.

GAUGE: 21 dc=2 inches
5 rows = 1 inch
* = STAR

COAT-Back-With Blue, ch 28, 1 dc in 4th ch from hook, 1 dc in each remaining ch. Row 2-Ch 3 (=1 dc), turn, 1 dc in 2nd dc, 1 dc in each dc to turning ch, 1 dc in top ch of turning ch (26 dc). Rpt row 2 until 14 rows from beginning. Row 15-Ch 1, turn, slip st in each of first 6 sts, ch 3, 1 dc in each of next 15 dc (thus leaving 5 sts free at each end for underarm). Rpt row 2 (16 dc), Row 17-Ch 3, turn, 1 dc in 2nd dc, 1 dc in each of next 2 dc (for Shoulder), 1 sc in each of next 8 dc, 1 dc in each of next 3 dc, 1 dc in top of turning ch (for other Shoulder), fasten off.

Left Front-With Blue, ch 15, 1 dc in 4th ch from hook, 1 dc in each remaining ch. Row 2-Rpt row 2 of Back (13 dc). Rpt row 2 until 14 rows from beginning. Row 15 -Ch 1, turn, slip st in each of first 6 dc, ch 3, 1 dc in each of next 6 dc, 1 dc in ch-3 (thus leaving 5 sts free for underarm). Rpt row 2 (8 dc). Row 17-Ch 3, turn, 1 dc in 2nd dc, 1 dc in each of next 2 dc (for Shoulder), 1 sc in each of next 3 dc, 1 sc in turning ch, fasten off. Work Right Front to correspond. Leaving 2 rows free at lower edge, sew side seams, sew Shoulder seams.

EDGING-With Blue, work a row of sc all around Coat (keeping edge flat), join in first sc, fasten off. With Yellow Six Strand, work [1 slip st and ch 1] in every 2nd sc around Coat, join, fasten off.

SLEEVE-Starting at seam of underarm, with Blue, 1 dc in each of next 5 dc of underarm, work 2 dc around post of end st of each of 6 rows around armhole, 1 dc in each of next 5 dc at underarm. Row 2-Ch 3, turn, 1 dc in first dc, 1 dc in each dc to last dc, 2 dc in last dc. Row 3Ch 3, turn, 1 dc in first dc, 1 dc in each dc to ch-3, 2 dc in top ch of ch-3. Rpt row 3 four times. Fasten off. Work other Sleeve to correspond. Sew Sleeve seams leaving last 3 rows free. Work Edging all around Sleeves.

TROUSERS-With Blue, ch 30, join with slip st into ring. Rnd l-Ch 3 (=1 dc), skip joined st, 1 dc in each of next 29 chs, join (with slip st in top ch of ch-3). Rnd 2 -Ch 3, turn, skip joined st, 1 dc in each dc around, join. Rpt rnd 2 until 11 rnds from beginning. Fasten off. Make another Leg. Sew 6 sts of last rnd of each Leg together to form crotch (keeping joinings of Legs at outside). Body of Trousers-Starting at crotch, work 1 dc in each of 48 dc on last rnd of Legs, join in first dc, Rnd 2-Ch 3, turn, skip joined st, 1 dc in each remaining dc, join. Rpt rnd 2 four times. Fasten off. Work same Edging as for Coat around bottom of Legs. Run a drawstring around top of Trousers, slip on Doll and tighten to fit waistline, tie a knot securely. Slip Coat on Doll, leaving 1-inch open at top and bottom, sew front together as shown, page 4. With Yellow, make 2 chains of 1 ½ inches each, join into ring; twist to figure 8 and sew each in place at front as shown.

HAT-With Blue, ch 4, 8 dc in 4th ch from hook, join (in top of turning ch). Rnd 2-Ch 3 (=1 dc), 1 dc in joined st, 2 dc in each dc around, join (18 dc), Rnd 3-Rpt rnd 2 (36 dc). Rnd 4-Ch 3, skip joined st, 1 dc in each dc around, join. Rnd 5-Working in back loop of sts, rpt rnd 4 (thus leaving front loops free), fasten off. Rnd 6-With Yellow, work [1 slip st and ch 1] in every 2nd st around, join, fasten off. With Yellow, work [1 slip st and ch 1] in each free loop of rnd 4, join, fasten off. With Yellow, make a small tassel and attach to center of Hat as shown.

LANTERN-With Blue, ch 4, work 11 dc in 4th ch from hook, join. Rnd 2-Ch 1, 1 sc in each st around, join (in back loop of first sc). Rnd 3-Ch 6, skip joined st and next sc, * 1 long tr in back loop of next sc, ch 1, skip next sc (thus leaving front loops free for Trimming); rpt from STAR around, join in 5th ch of ch-6. Rnd 4-Ch 1, 1 sc in each st and in each sp around, join. Rnd 5-Ch 3, skip joined st, 1 dc in back loop of each sc around, join in ch-3, leaving 9 inches of thread, fasten off. Trimming-With Yellow, work [1 slip st and ch 1] in every 2nd free loop of rnds 2 and 4, join, fasten off. Thread needle with 9-inch thread and draw top of Lantern together tightly; sew 2 long loops for handle as shown, fasten thread. Steam crocheted pieces lightly.
