Materials:

J. & P. Coats Tatting-Crochet, Size 70, Shaded Dk. Blues (No. 14), Dk. Yellow (No. 43) and Hunter's Green (No. 48) . . . Steel Crochet Hook No. 14.

Edging--First Aster . . .

Starting at center with Blue, ch 8. Join with sl st to form ring.

1st rnd: Working over 4 strands make 20 sc in ring. Sl st in first sc.

2nd rnd: *Make 10 sc over 4 strands (this starts petal); to complete petal--still working over 4 strands and the petal sts previously made make sc in 2nd sc from hook and in next 8 sc (one petal completed), sc in next 2 sc on ring. Repeat from * around (10 petal in all). Sl st in first sc. Break off.

Center . . . Starting at center with Yellow, ch 4.

1st rnd: 19 dc in 4th ch from hook. Sl st in top of starting chain.

2nd rnd: Sc in each st around. Sl st in first sc.

3rd rnd: Ch 3, dc in each sc around. Sl st in top of starting chain. Stuff center and sew in place.

Second Motif . . . Work as for First Motif until first rnd is completed.

2nd rnd: Make 10 sc over 4 strands, sl st in tip of any petal on First Motif. Working over 4 strands as before sc in 2nd sc from tip of petal and complete motif as before, joining tip of next petal to tip of corresponding petal of First Motif.

Make necessary number of Motifs, joining each to previous one as Second Motif was joined to First Motif, having 3 petals free on each side of joinings.

Heading . . . 1st rnd: Attach Green to tip of 4th free petal on end motif preceding joining, ch 9, * dc in tip of next free petal, ch 5, sc in tip of next petal, ch 5, dc in tip of next petal, ch 5, tr in joining of petals, ch 5. Repeat from * across, ending with tr in tip of 4th free petal of last flower. Ch 5, turn.

2nd rnd: * Dc in next sp, ch 2, skip same sp, dc in next st, ch 2. Repeat from * across. Break off.

Insertion . . . Work as for Edging EI-287 making Heading on both long sides.
