MATERIALS REQUIRED — American Thread Company "Gem" Cotton Rug Yarn, 1 Skein each of White, Natural or Cream and any Contrasting Color desired will make all 4 Pot Holders.
Bone Crochet Hook No. 3 or 4.

With Color, ch 3, work 8 s c in first st of ch, ch 1 and work 2 s c in each st (16 s c).
3rd Row—* ch 2, 2 d c in same space with last s c, skip 1 s c, s c in next s c, repeat from * all around, break yarn.
4th Row—Attach Cream in s c between shells, ch 2, 2 d c in same space, * 2 s c in next d c, 3 d c in next s c between shells, repeat from * all around.
5th Row—1 s c in each st.
6th Row—Work in s c increasing in every 5th st, break yarn.
7th Row—Attach Color, ch 3, 2 d c in same space with ch, skip 2 s c, s c in next st, * ch 3, 2 d c in same space with s c, skip 2 s c, s c in next s c, repeat from * all around ending with a loop made of ch 8.

With Color ch 2, 4 sc in 1st ch, join.
2nd Row—Ch 1, 2 s c in each s c, join.
3rd Row—Ch 1, 3 s c in 1st s c, 1 s c in next s c, 3 s c in next st and repeat all around.
4th Row—3 s c in next s c, 1 s c in each of the next 3 s c, 3 s c in next s c and repeat all around.
5th Row—Attach Cream, ch 1, 4 d c with ch 1 between in next st, ch 1, skip 1 s c, 1 s c in each of the next 3 s c, ch 1, skip 1 s c, 4 d c with ch 1 between in next st and repeat all around.
6th Row—With Color, 1 s c in each st picking up back loop only.
7th Row—With Cream, ch 1, 1 s c in next s c, skip 1 s c, * 4 d c with ch 1 between in corner s c, ch 1, skip 1 s c, 1 s c in each of the next 4 s c, 3 s c in next s c, 1 s c in each of the next 4 s c, ch 1, skip 1 s c, repeat from * all around.
8th Row—Same as 6th row.

Ch 20 and work 19 s c on ch, ch 1, turn and work a 2nd row of s c.
3rd Row—Attach Color, 1 s c in each of the next * 3 s c, next s c pick up the entire st, repeat from * across row and work 1 row of s c.
5th Row—Pick up Cream, 1 s c, * next s c pick up the entire st, 1 s c in each of the next 3 sts, repeat from * across row and work 1 row of s c.
Repeat 3rd, 4th and 5th rows and work 3 rows of s c in Cream, then repeat 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th rows twice.
With Color finish with a row of s c all around, work a 7 ch loop in one corner if desired.
With Color, ch 3, work 5 s c into first st of ch then without joining rounds work 2 s c in each st until there are 14 sts in round, then increase every other st until there are 20 sts in round. * Pick up Cream and work 2 s c in next st carrying the Color under White, with Color work 1 s c in each of the next 2 s c, repeat from * all around and work 1 row of Color increasing in every 1st Cream s c.
Next Round—* 1 Cream st in 1st Cream st, 2 Cream sts in next st, with color 1 s c in each of the next 2 sts, repeat from * all around.
Next Round—* 1 Cream s c in 1st Cream s c, 2 s c in next s c, 1 s c in next s c. With color 1 s c in each of the next 2 s c, repeat from * all around.
Next Round—Work all in Cream, increasing in every 1st and last Cream s c, work 1 rounc even ending with a sl st, break yarn.
Attach color, * Ch 2, d c in same space, skip 1 s c, sl st in next s c, repeat from * all around, ending with a ch 9 loop if desired.
