Potholder No. 12

MATERIALS REQUIRED:
Art. 600 Lily Cotton Yam Skeins or
Art. 930 Sugar 'N Cream Yarn Balls
2 skeins Reseda, 1 skein Lt. Green and
Art. 21 Lily Six Strand Floss
1 skein each of a dozen different blending colors.
Crochet Hooks Nos. 0 and 5.

FRONT—With Lt. Green and No. 0 hook ch 20, sc in 2d ch from hook, (ch 1, sk 1 ch, sc in next ch) 9 times. ROW 2—Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in 1st sc (an increase), (ch 1, sc in next sc) repeated across with 2 sc in end sc (an increase). ROW 3—Ch 1, turn, sc in 1st sc, (ch 1, sc in next sc) repeated across. Repeat Row 3 four times. Row 8—Repeat Row 2. ROWS 9 thru 13—Repeat Row 3 five times. Repeat from Row 8 twice. ROW 26—Ch 2, turn, draw up lps in 1st 2 sc, yarn over and draw thru all lps on hook (a 2-sc decrease), (ch 1, sc in next sc) repeated across to 3d sc from end, ch 1, a decrease in 2 end sc. Repeat 3 times (thru Row 29). Fasten off.

Edge—With Reseda work around with 2-sc shells. Join and fasten off. BACK—With Reseda ch 36, sk 1 ch, sc in next 35 ch. Work all rows in back lps only. ROW 2—Ch 1, turn, sc in each sc with sc and hdc in end sc. ROW 3—Ch 4, turn, sk 1 ch, sc in next 3 ch, sc in each sc to 8th from end of last row. ROWS 4 thru 9—Repeat Rows 2 and 3 three times. Sc in next 7 sc, (hdc in 1st sc down on previous row, sc in next 6 sc) 3 times. ROW 10—Repeat Row 2. ROW 11—Ch 4, turn, sk 1 ch, sc in next 3 ch, sc in each sc to end. ROWS 12 thru 18—(Ch 1, turn, sc in each sc) 7 times. Cut 2" long. ROW 19—Turn, sk 3 sc, sl st in next sc, ch 1, sc in next 30 sc. ROW 20—Ch 1, turn, sc in 30 sc. Cut. ROW 21—Turn, sk 3 sc, sl st in next sc, ch 1, sc in next 26 sc, hdc down in next sc on previous row, sc in next 6 sc. ROW 22—Ch 1, turn, sc in 33 sc. Cut. ROW 23—Turn, sk 3 sc, sl st in next sc, ch 1, sc in next 29 sc, hdc down in next sc on previous row, sc in next 6 sc. ROW 24—Ch 1, turn, sc in 36 sc. Cut. ROW 25—Turn, sk 3 sc, sl st in next sc, ch 1, sc in next 32 sc, hdc down in next sc on previous row, sc in remaining 6 sc. ROW 26—Ch 1, turn, sc in 39 sc. Cut. ROW 27—Turn, sk 3 sc, sl st in next sc, ch 1, sc in next 35 sc. ROW 28—Ch 1, turn, sc in 35 sc. Cut. Edge—Join to one lower corner and make sc around, working over yarn ends left from previous rows. Join and fasten off.

FLOWER—With Six Strand Floss and No. 5 hook ch 5, join with sl st to form ring. * Ch 4, 4 dc in 4th ch from hook, ch 3, sl st in same st, sc in ring. Repeat from * 4 times. Fasten off. Make a French Knot in center in a contrasting color. Make 8 Flowers, each a different color. Sew on lower half of Front as illustrated. Fill in among them with Lazy Daisy Stitch leaves in Reseda.

BUTTERFLY—With Floss ch 4, 3 dc in 4th ch from hook, ch 5, sl st in last dc for a p, dc in same st with other dc, ch 3, sl st in same st, ch 5, (dc, a ch-5 p and 3 dc) in 4th ch from hook, ch 3, sl st in same st, hdc in ch-1 sp between wings. Ch 5, tr and 2 dtr in 5th ch from hook, a ch-4 p, ch 6, sl st down in same st with dtr, dc in same ch-1 sp between 1st 2 wings, ch 7, dtr in 7th ch from hook, a ch-4 p, dtr and tr in same st with last dtr, ch 4, sl st in same st join with sl st at base of 1st lower wing. Fasten off. Body—In a contrasting color ch 6, sk 1 ch, sl st in next 2 ch, sc in next 2 ch, sl st in end ch. Fasten off. Sew between wings. With same color make 2 French knots on each top wing and 1 on each lower wing. Make 2 more Butterflies in different colors.

Sew on top half of Front. With 3 strands of Floss make 2 long sts out from head of each Butterfly for antennae.

Sew Front and Back tog. across sides and bottom. Repeat from beginning for other Pocket.

BAND—Join Reseda to top of one Back, ch 4, sk 1 st, dc in next st, ch 1, sk 1 st, dc in next st. ROW 2—Ch 3, turn, dc in next ch-1 sp, dc in next dc, 2 dc in next sp. ROW 3—Ch 4, turn, sk 2 dc, dc in next dc, ch 1, sk 1 dc, dc in next dc. Repeat Rows 2 and 3 thru Row 25. Fasten off and sew last row to top of 2d Pocket.

Steam and press holders dry on back thru a cloth.
