Peony Tatted Edging Pattern #1549

TOWEL EDGINGS

MATERIALS REQUIRED — American Thread Company "Star" Tatting Cotton or "Star" Mercerized Crochet Cotton size 50 to 70. White or Colors—1 Ball of Tatting Cotton will make edging for 1 end of a 14 inch towel.

MEDALLIONS. R 14 lp, cl, tie and cut. R 5 ds, 5 p sep by 2 ds, 5 ds, cl, * ⅜ in. thread, sr 3 ds, join to p of center ring, 3 ds, cl, ⅜ in. thread, r 5 ds, join to last p of lr, 2 ds, 4 p sep by 2 ds, 5 ds, cl, repeat from * around, join to first lr. Tie and cut.

Make as many medallions as required, joining each to the other by center p of 2 rings on each medallion.

Make small motif as follows: R 5 ds, sk 2 rs from where the medallions are joined together, join in center p of next r, 3 ds, 4 p sep by 3 ds, 5 d, cl, make 2 more rings, join second r to first r, and third r to second r, also to next r on medallion. Tie and cut. Make the small motif for each large medallion to form a scallop.

EDGE. * R 3 ds, join to center p of r of medallion, 3 ds, cl, ch 7 ds, p, 7 ds, repeat across top and down side of scallop to center r of small motif, join sr to 2 p of lr, and leave off the ch between 2 sr at intersection of points. Finish other scallops in same way.
