Pansy Edging & Insertion Pattern

MATERIALS:
J. & P. Coats Tatting-Crochet, Size 70, Shaded Fuchsia (No. 22-C), Shaded Yellows (No. 19), Shaded Laven­ders (No. 18) and Hunter's Green (No. 48) ... Steel Crochet Hook No. 14.

EDGINGFIRST PANSY … Starting at center with Shaded Fuchsia, ch 6. Join with sl st to form ring. 1st rnd: Ch 6, half dc in ring, ch 7, half dc in ring, ch 5, half dc in ring, ch 9, half dc in ring, ch 9, sl st in 2nd ch of ch-6 first made.

2nd rnd: In next loop make sc, half dc, 3 dc, half dc and sc (petal); in next loop make sc, half dc, 5 dc, half dc and sc (another petal), in next loop make a petal of sc, half dc, 3 dc, half dc and sc; (in next loop make a large petal of sc, half dc, dc, 11 tr, dc, half dc and sc) twice; sl st in first sc. Break off.
   Make 2 more Pansies, one of Shaded Yellows and one of Shaded Lavenders. Make necessary number of Pansies, arranging colors as established.

HEADING1st row: Attach Green to first tr on first large petal, ch 9, * skip 5 tr, sc in next tr, ch 9, skip 7 sts on next large petal, sc in next tr, ch 10, skip 5 tr on same petal, sc in next tr, ch 4, sc in first tr of next large petal on next pansy, ch 5, sl st in previous ch-10 loop, ch 5. Repeat from * across, ending with ch 5, skip 5 tr on second large petal of last Pansy, tr in next tr. Ch 5, turn. 2nd row: Dc in next sp, ch 4, dc in next sp, * ch 4, dc in same sp, (ch 4, dc in next sp) 3 times. Repeat from * across. Break off.

INSERTION … Work as for Edging until Heading is com­pleted. Now work Heading on the opposite side as follows: 1st row: Attach Green to tip of first small petal, * ch 9, sc in tip of next petal, ch 9, tr in tip of next petal, tr in tip of next free petal. Repeat from * across, ending with tr in tip of last free petal of last pansy. Turn. 2nd row: * Ch 4, in next sp make dc, ch 4 and dc. Repeat from * across. Break off.
